Introduction

This is a collection of color coordinated 3D Orange Animated Cursors for Windows 95/98 or NT. They replace all the standard Windows Cursors with animated versions and have optional versions available for many of the cursors. They are all 256 color cursors and will not display properly without the right video card and settings (see discussion on 256 Color Cursor Requirements for details). These cursors lend some variety to the desktop and compliment the many themes available for Windows 95. These cursors are also usable with NT and Windows 98, but they do not have instructions for NT as I do not have access to a computer with it. For installation under Windows 95/98 see the "Instructions" below.

Instructions for Windows 95/98

The installation instructions provided in this file are given only as a courtesy. If you don't know what you are doing, please get help from someone who does. Since not everyone wants their setup to change to someone else's arbitrary default, this setup has intentionally been made to allow manual user input.

Installation

1. Unzip the 3docur10.zip file using an unzip utility which can handle long file names such as WinZip. The default directory will be "\Windows\Cursors\3DOrange." If for some reason you put the cursors into a different directory when unzipping, make a "\Windows\Cursors\3DOrange" directory and copy the cursors into it.

2. In Windows Explorer go to the "\Windows\Cursors\3DOrange" directory. You have a choice to install just the cursor scheme and not change your cursors or to install the scheme and the cursors. To install the scheme but not change any cursors, right click on the "3DOCursorScheme.reg" file and click on "Merge." This adds the 3D Orange Animated Cursors Scheme to the mouse control panel, but will NOT make any changes to your existing cursors. To install the scheme and the cursors, right click on the "3DOCursorInstall.reg" file and click on "Merge."

3. To activate the "3D Orange Animated Cursors," manually select the scheme, or to make any changes to the alternate cursors in the set, follow the directions below.

4. In Windows 95, click on "Start," then "Settings," then "Control Panel."

5. In Control Panel, double click on "Mouse" for Mouse Properties. Click on "Pointers" in Mouse Properties.

6. Under "Scheme," if not already showing the "3D Orange Animated Cursors" scheme, click on the arrow for the drop down menu and double click on the "3D Orange Animated Cursors" entry. You should now see the 3D Orange Animated Cursors for each default entry.

7. To keep the set shown, just click on "Apply" and go to step 8. To change any of the cursors, select that cursor and click on "Browse," double click on the 3DOrange directory, then select the new cursor desired from those listed. The "application in background" cursors have "apps" in their name and the "busy" cursors have "busy" in their name. Then click "Open." You should now see the new cursor shown for that event. Continue this until you have all the cursors the way you want. At this time you may want to save this as a custom scheme. Type in a scheme name and click on "Save As." To initiate the new cursors, click on "Apply."

8. Exit Mouse Properties and Control Panel. You're done!

Note: 3dobusy8.ani is a 60 second timer and can be used to measure waiting time for your applications.

To uninstall:

1. Select new cursors that are not in the "\Windows\Cursors\3DOrange" directory for your default cursors using Steps 3-8 under Installation. When done, select the 3D Orange Animated Cursors under Scheme and click on "Delete."

2. In Windows Explorer delete directory "\Windows\Cursors\3DOrange."

256 Color Cursor Requirements

ALL cursors in this set are 256 color cursors. You must have a true or high color video card set higher than 256 colors and "Windows 95 Plus!" (or equivalent) installed to take advantage of these cursors. With "Plus!" installed you can enable high color mode under "Settings/Control Panel/Display Properties/Plus!". If you do not have "Plus!" you can use "Microangelo Engineer" (shareware) or "MULEVEL" (freeware). "MULEVEL" is available from the 3D Orange Animated Cursors home page.

Credits

This cursor set is my original work. I have borrowed some ideas or converted interesting art from others and want to give them credit. To start with, I have used ideas developed from my other color coordinated cursor sets. They are available at these pages:
3D Green Animated Cursors - http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/2569/3DGCurPg.htm
3D Yellow Animated Cursors - http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/2569/3DYCurPg.htm

Animated Inverse Cursor Scheme - http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/2569/AniInvPg.htm

The original animations for the standard cursors were modeled after a freeware blue 3D animated and static cursor set developed by Chris Prescott. I wish to thank him for permission to use his ideas. His cursor set is available at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Park/4467.
The animated gold star cursor is used with permission from a gold cursor set made by Matt Brown. The animated color star and atom were made by me based on animated gifs by Matt Brown. As this was done frame by frame without a conversion program, it was not an easy task. The internet address I had for Matt is no longer valid.
The animated clock cursors were based on a clock cursor I saw by Juan C. Pradas-Bergnes.
The spinning colored disk is based on an unattributed animated gif I found on the internet.
A few "application in background" cursors have animations similar to Plus! theme cursors to allow substitution of this cursor set into the theme. For the cursor with a Windows flag, the copyright for the flag belongs to Microsoft.
