4. Usage
========

Usage of DejaPost is quite simple. If you start
DejaPost it checks for a cookie which you should
receive from DejaNews if you have been registered.
If you have not been registered yet or you have lost
your cookie, DejaPost will prompt you to register and
you will be able to do it immediately using the program.
Once you register you are able to post messages.

To post a message you need sequentially fill entry
fields shown on screen.

You need to enter your E-mail in the From field. If
you preview or send a message your E-mail address,
Signature, Organisation and Reply-to fields (last two
in the registered version only) will be stored and in
the future you will need just to select an E-mail
address from the drop-down list and other values will
be filled automatically.

Next you need to type in desired newsgroup names
delimited with comma (for example: news.newusers,
news.answers, microsoft.public.internet.news) in the
Groups field. You can enter any number of newsgroups
here.

Next type in a subject of your message in the Subject
field.

Next type in a text of your message in the Message Body
field. Note that unregistered version allows only 5
lines of text here. DejaNews allows to post up to 51200
bytes of message text. Several characters will take more
than one byte. Exact length in bytes of resulting
message is shown in the status bar. If you try to send
message which overcomes this limitation you will get an
error box.

If you want you can type in a signature to add to the
bottom of your message. The benefit of a signature is
that it is stored with the E-mail address and in the
future by selecting an E-mail from the list you
automatically add signature to your message. Note that
unregistered version allows only two lines of signature
and only registered version allows you to select whether
you want to add signature to the specific message.

If you have prepared your message you can preview it
using DejaNews by pressing Preview... button. DejaPost
will connect with DejaNews and show you the preview.
If you accept it then you can press OK button and
message will be posted, otherwise you can press Cancel.

If you have chosen OK in the previous window or if you
decided to post message without preview and pushed Send!
button, then DejaPost will take first 4 newsgroups and
send a message to DejaNews. Result will be shown to you.
If you see that DejaNews succesfully send a message you
can press OK to post the next 4 newsgroups and so on.
If you want to stop posting you can press Cancel.

If you want to use a message in the future you can save
it using Save... button. You can choose whether to save
message with headers or just a plain message text. If
you save message with headers they will be stored in a
file with extension .DJP that is associated with
DejaPost, i.e. by opening this file you will bring up
DejaPost with it. Also you can load previously stored
message using Load... button. DejaPost will
automatically detects whether specified file contains
headers.

By pushing Setup... button you can configure fonts used
by the program. Also you can specify whether to use
proxy server. IE defaults selection means that DejaPost
will use the same configuration as used by Internet
Explorer.
