This is a program that started because my computer didn't come with an address book. I wanted to just keep track of names and numbers of people, and the only way I could find to do it was by creating a database, so i coded a program myself! :) The program started to grow, and now includes a "To-Do" list, an alarm clock for those times you lose track of time while you're cruising the web, and a drop-down menu that has some shortcuts for windows applications like Explorer, Solitaire, CD-Player, and things like that. The program scans your system when it starts up and puts the shortcuts in for the applications that are installed in your "C:/Windows" directory, so it won't work for Windows NT, sorry. The program also displays the date and time, which you can hide or show to your heart's content. The program also saves your user information, and the window appears in the same place where it last was when you started the program. It will also show or not show the date and time according to how you last had it set up. I have coded this program to use the least amount of system resources as possible in order to have it running all the time with little or no effect on your system's performance. You may want to put a shortcut to this program in your system's startup folder and have it start automatically with windows.

ADDRESS BOOK:
The address book is probably the best part of this program, at least in my opinion. It will sort records for you by name, will automatically save any changes to records that you type in, will let you search the address book by name, as well as print out either an individual record or the entire address book. You can only print with the registered version of this program. I decided to let the user choose to manually sort the address book, instead of having it sort automatically, since this way it can open up to the same name it was set on when it was last closed.

TO-DO LIST:
It's just a simple list that can keep track of what you have to do. (DUH!) You can print the list out with the registered version of this program. The list is automatically saved when you exit the program, and there is also an option to save the list manually (FILE/SAVE). You can also clear the entire list with the "LIST/CLEAR ALL" option.
3/11/97 - added another list, so there is now a "work" to do list, and a "home" to do list.

ALARM CLOCK:
This is just a neat little thing that I threw in. I thought of it when I would be coding for 10 hours straight and realize that I had completely lost track of time. If I needed to go do something at a certain time (like go to work!) I could have the alarm clock pop up with a message at a certain time telling me to get up and go do something. I have set up the program to only check the time every 10 seconds, so there may be a few second lag between when the time changes and when the alarm goes off. I did this in order to have the program run in the background and not effect the performance of the computer all that much. IF YOU EXIT DESKTOP HELPER THE ALARM CLOCK WILL NO LONGER BE ACTIVE!

TIME/DATE VIEW:
There may be a few second delay between when the minute changes in your WIN95 taskbar and when the minute changes in the TIME/DATE view. This is on purpose! See the "Alarm Clock" section above for details.

BUGS:
	None known.

DISCLAIMER:
I take no responsibility for any damage this program may cause, although I can't imagine it causing any harm, no matter how hard you try...

HOW TO REGISTER THIS PROGRAM:

There is a $15 (US) registration fee if you decide to continue using this program. You will also be able to print out your address book and your To-Do list (Big deal, I know...). Please register this program If you continue to use it! The only reason I'm asking for money is to cover the cost of all the badnwidth I have to pay for from all the people that have downloaded it. I'm not making any money at all. In fact, I'm LOSING money! I'll send you nice, new disks with the complete program on it, and you'll just enjoy an over-all nice feeling knowing that you're doing the right thing. And your registered version won't have all those annoying "PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!" messages popping up all over the place. If you have already registered this program, THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! To register this software, please send $15, check or money order to:

This program is provided freely to non-profit and educational institutions. Please e-mail me at frank@honeycakes.com for details. If you live somewhere where it's difficult to send me US dollars, or you live somewhere where it will cost me a lot of money to ship the disks to you (I've had this program downloaded from several countries already), e-mail me, and we can talk about working something out, like you pay for shipping, and I send you the program for free. I didn't code this program to make money, I'm just trying to break even with the bandwidth charges from the program getting downloaded so much.

No animals were harmed in the making of this program, but my cats got pretty mad when I didn't let them sit on my keyboard, and my dog was upset that I wouldn't play with her when I was coding.

If you have any questions about this software you can e-mail me at:

You can download the shareware version of this program at "http://www.honeycakes.com/software.htm", as well as check out some of the other Freeware/Shareware that I have programmed. Check out the site, you might find something there that you like!

Thank you for trying Desktop Helper!
