Recommended: Quake(registered), Pentium CPU, 4x CD-ROM Drive, Accelerated SVGA Video. Each level requires some disk space, from about 300KB to 1MB. You also need the registered version of Quake from id Software. Installing Dark hour -------------------- Dark Hour does not need to be installed. Simply run it from the directory where is is stored. The levels, on the other hand, will need to be installed on the Quake directory. You can use Dark Hour, or manually copy the files. Running Dark Hour ----------------- Select Run from the Start Menu. Type "c:\darkhour\darkhour.exe", where "c:\darkhour" is the drive and directory where Darkhour is and press return. Using Dark Hour --------------- The rectangular brown boxes with text inside are buttons. Simply click on them to perform the action stated. A logo will be played or displayed, then the main screen shows up. Here you can go to the Briefing Room and read the Dark Hour mission brief. You can go to the Install Levels screen or the Run Levels screen. You can also view a list of Quake web sites in the Web, Editors screen. The Help and About screens show help and information about Dark Hour, respectively. The Install Levels screen shows the following information for each level selected: the level title, the directory in the CD-ROM where it is stored, the author of the level (if any) and a description. You can either manually copy the files from the directory listed to the \quake\id1\maps directory, or click on the '>' button to have Dark Hour do it for you. '>>' will install ALL levels. Once you have copied the files you want, return to the main screen and click the Run Levels button. Select the level you want to play or installed, then click the run button to run Quake with the selected level in Single Player mode. To uninstall a level, go back to the Install Levels, select the level in the Installed Levels list and click '<' to uninstall it. '<<' will uninstall ALL levels. You can click on the help button at any time if you are having problems with Dark Hour. How to Use the Quake Levels --------------------------- (Note: Quake must be installed first otherwise you won't be able to install or run Dark Hour levels) A. Loading Dark Hour levels using Run Levels screen. 1. Click on a level (from the list). 2. Once it is selected, then you can start the level in either single player, coop, or deathmatch mode by pressing any of the three large buttons on the right. B. Loading levels using console commands (for advanced users) 1. Single Player Mode: a) You are playing a level and you want to change to another Dark Hour level (without quiting and then restarting Quake): You press the console key ~ (top left key on keyboard, just below the ESC button) b) Now, you have access to the console. To load another Dark Hour level you must type in map . For example, if you want to load a Dark Hour level called wargames, you would type map wargames at the console prompt. A list of all the Dark Hour Levels will be listed on the Manual for your convenience. 2. Coop Mode: a) Press console key b) Type in map 3.
