Unprotect for Sky Fox (IBM PC)


 BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR SKY FOX DISK BEFORE STARTING AND USE THE
 BACK UP FOR THE UNPROTECT.
 Modify only the backup copy!!!

 First you should rename the file or files
 SKYFOX4.EXE SKYFOX4
 SKYFOX16.EXE SKYFOX16


 Ex. C>rename skyfox4.exe skyfox4

 Next Load program into debug...

 Ex. C>debug skyfox4

 Then Follow the sample debug session:

     -s 0000 ffff e9 1b 00 c6 46  :   Search for protection pattern
                                  :   SKYFOX4.EXE

     XXXX:YYYY                    :   The search will return one addresses.
                                      If more or less than one are returned
                                      this unprotect may not work.

     -e YYYY 90 90 90             :   Edit the contents of the computed
                                      address

     -s 0000 ffff 74 19 c6 46     :   Search for protection pattern
                                  :   SKYFOX16.EXE

     XXXX:YYYY                    :   The search will return one addresses.
                                      If more or less than one are returned
                                      this unprotect may not work.

     -e YYYY 90 90                :   Edit the contents of the computed
                                      address

 Now write the new skyfox4 game back to the disk:

     -w  <Enter>

     Writing XXXX bytes

 Then Quit Debug:

     -q  <Enter>

 Now it is time to rename skyfox4 back to skyox4.exe

     C>ren skyfox4 skyfox4.exe

 Now try to run the new (Hopefully) unprotected version of Sky Fox
 just push CR when asked to identify the starbase.

     C>skyfox4
