Unprotect for PaperBoy (IBM PC)


 BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR PAPERBOY DISK BEFORE STARTING AND USE THE
 BACK UP FOR THE UNPROTECT.
 Modify only the backup copy!!!

 First you should rename the file or files
 PAPERCGA.EXE TO PAPERCGA
 PAPERCG2.EXE TO PAPERCG2
 PAPERCGT.EXE TO PAPERCGT


 Ex. C>rename papercga.exe papercga

 Next Load program into debug...

 Ex. C>debug papercga

 Then Follow the sample debug session:

     -s 0000 ffff cd 21 32 e4 9a  :   Search for first protection pattern

     XXXX:YYYY                    :   The search will return one address.
                                      If more than one is returned
                                      this unprotect may not work.

     ZZZZ=YYYY+0004               :   Add 4 to the address found
                                      (These numbers are in hex. If you are
                                       unfamiliar with the adding of hex
                                       numbers don't attempt this patch)

     -e ZZZZ eb 03 90 90 90       :   Edit the contents of the computed
                                      address


     -s 0000 ffff 1f b8 48 00 9a  :   Search for second protection pattern

     XXXX:YYYY                    :   The search will return one address.
                                      If more than one is returned
                                      this unprotect may not work.

     ZZZZ=YYYY+0004               :   Add 4 to the address found
                                      (These numbers are in hex. If you are
                                       unfamiliar with the adding of hex
                                       numbers don't attempt this patch)

     -e ZZZZ eb 03 90 90 90 b8 33 00 90 90
                                  :   Edit the contents of the computed
                                      address

 Now write the new papercga game back to the disk:

     -w  <Enter>

     Writing XXXX bytes

 Then Quit Debug:

     -q  <Enter>

 Now it is time to rename papercga back to papercga.exe

     C>ren papercga papercga.exe

 Now try to run the new (Hopefully) unprotected version of PaperBoy

     C>papercga
