TITLE: Improving Print Quality of Bitmaps Pasted from Clipboard PRODUCT: Ami Pro 3.0 DATE: 18-Dec-1992 PROBLEM: Some bitmap graphics pasted from the Windows Clipboard do not print a high quality image on an HP LaserJet series II printer. SOLUTION: Due to optimization methods to increase print speed with HP LaserJet series II and compatible printers, some bitmap graphic images pasted from the Clipboard do not print a high quality image. To determine if these optimization methods are the reason for the reduced image quality, disable Ami Pro's Print in Background option and reprint the file. If the quality improves for your image, you can obtain a modified AMIPRINT.EXE file from Lotus which will allow you to continue using the Print in Background option and still get an improved quality graphic image printed. The file is available electronically from the Lotus WPD bulletin board at 404-395-7707 or from the [Ami Pro-Technotes] library on the LotusWP CompuServe forum. Download the file AMIPRT.EXE from either location. You can also obtain the file on disk by calling the Lotus Word Processing Division Customer Service Department at 404-399-5505 (the disk obtained from customer service contains the single file AMIPRINT.EXE rather than the compressed AMIPRT.EXE). HOW TO DISABLE PRINT IN BACKGROUND 1. In Ami Pro choose Tools / User Setup. 2. Choose Options. 3. Remove the X from the "Print in Background" Speed Option. 4. Choose OK. 5. Choose OK. HOW TO INSTALL THE MODIFIED AMIPRINT.EXE FILE 1. Exit Ami Pro if it is running. 2. At the Windows Program Manager, start the File Manager. 3. Note: If you obtained AMIPRT.EXE, it is a self-extracting file which must be executed (run) to extract the file AMIPRINT.EXE. Copy the modified AMIPRINT.EXE file (probably on a floppy disk in drive A or B) to the Ami Pro program subdirectory on the hard drive (usually drive C). Specify Yes to replace the existing file. 4. Press ALT + F4 to close File Manager. 5. Start Ami Pro. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 in the section titled HOW TO DISABLE PRINT IN BACKGROUND except in step 3, place an X in the "Print in Background" Speed Option.
