Moral Phibre's Contest!!! Presenting, the eSp official contest: Every issue, we will be running a contest for our readers to develop the best phone phreak devices. Entries will be considered on these areas: 1) Does it work? This will be rated on a 1 to 10 with 10 being the best. 2) How much does it cost? For a valid entry, you must supply a parts list with cost. The cost, divided by 100 will be the number of points _subtracted_ from your score. 3) How cool is it? Amaze us with cool features, lights, sounds, whatever! This is rated on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the most original 4) How original is it? Rated on a scale of 1 to 5, with higher points being awarded for more originality. Remember, for your entry to be valid, you must supply schematics (in ASCII or .gif), clear instructions for building the device, as well as a complete part list, preferably with Rat-Shack numbers, and prices. If you do not get your parts from Rat Shack, you must include the company you ordered from, as well as their phone number and address. The Winner, which will be determined by the highest score, will have their schematic published, in the next issue, and their schematics put into the eSp Hall of Phame collection! Fame and fortune will be yours. In the case of a tie, the winner will be determined by lowest price. This contest is open to all phone phreaks, hackers, warez dudez, telco employees, and others. Participation by people employed by local, state, or national government, as well as those employed by law enforcement officials is prohibited. Now, this issue's contest: PHONE LINE IN-USE DETECTOR Does it irk you when people pick up on a conversation you re having, or have you ever tried to beige box an active line so you could listen in? Then this project is for you. Construct a device that will detect when the voltage drops on the line. If you're clever, you can even build a device that can tell you when others are on a line. The key to this is that the voltage drops the more people are on a line. Build it so you can use it on a modular jack as well as on a Bell can, and watch your functionality points skyrocket! To enter your design, first e-mail a brief description of what your design is, to mmsdc@aol.com. DO NOT SEND YOUR COMPLETE PLANS, or you will be disqualified. He will then give you an appropriate address to send your complete set of plans to. Once you have done this, you will be entered into the contest.
