Introduction Well fellow iLL readers I know that this file is a bit short and that's because it is a compact, easy to follow guide. It details how to use an Erricson VMB after you get past whatever password some dumbfuck set up. I've been going to an area that uses these systems predominantly and they recently switched over to another VMB system. They, however, have kept all of the Erricson telephones and this may indicate that there is some security hole that was too horrid to keep around. The Erricson Telephone Erricson is one of the few Swedish companies that are actually recognizable in the U.S. They set up telephone networks at businesses and universities. You can spot their telephones quite easily for they have the word Erricson is printed on them quite visibly (i.e. you don't need to turn the fucking phone over). Furthermore, if they sticker has been removed you will notice them by their low, semi-sleek look. The standard models are at most 3" high and tan in color. The number keys are black with white writing. Also, the speak and receive ends of the handset are of the circular variety and not the typical multitude of holes. Asides from the regular numeric keys they also have two separate buttons used to transfer calls, etc. Some models have several extra buttons, a one line LCD screen, and several nifty rows of red LED lights. I have not yet had free access to one of these. How to Recognize an Erricson VMB System Typically they are kinda fucked. Once you reach one you listen to whatever the message is and the last sentence is one from the machine. The machine's message is "is not available". I suppose the idea is to leave just your name and let the machine do the rest. Typically you might here something like this. [Person] Hi, I'm beating off in the bathroom right now but if you could leave a message I'll be glad to get back to you [Machine] is not available, please leave a message after the tone. When you have finished your message press pound. The voice of this particular VMB is female and somewhat high pitched, as with all VMB's it also gets on your nerves. The characteristic that'll give away an Erricson VMB is in the way it says pound. The pitch will decrease and it will be quite obvious once you hear the damn thing. Finally, after you press pound you get the following. [Machine] to review your message press ???? to send your message press pound. Once again pound is said with that annoying decrease in pitch, after you've pressed pound for the second time it should end with the voice saying quite quickly the last part of the following. [Machine] Thank you, good bye. Well, the docs for the VMB were lifted from some office somewhere since I see these damn phones all the time. Hopefully it'll help hack at least one type of mailboxes. They're a big enough company to have been mentioned alongside other major foreign companies such as Honda and Toyota so I'd think they're everywhere. The only other worthwhile thing I can think of mentioning is that their networks are based on a typical extension system i.e. 5-xxxx. Happy VMB Hacking....
