INTRODUCTION
------------

A previous file, by Killer Smurf and Pax Coronicus, explains how to
'steal' free local calls off pay phones. We acknowledge their effort and give
full credit to their work. This file is in no way trying to take away their
efforts. We of CHAOS are not trying to duplicate their file in any way. There
are just some revisions that we'd like to add.

Allright. Now this file explains what physically to do to a pay phone to
make a free LOCAL call. It has been tested on Pacific Bell and GTE Phones so
far, and there's no reason for it not to work on all pay phones.

INSTRUCTIONS
------------

Materials:

Nail - 3/8" or thinner, at least 1 1/2" long.
Pay phone - Pac Bell, GTE, any kind.

Procedure:

Some previous files you have read might require you to have a tolerance
for electricity, well there is another way, easier, a way that doesn't
require you to be shocked, an unpleasant experience.
First, find the center hole on the mouthpiece of the phone. Place the
nail in there, and making sure it's straight (important), apply pressure and
make it stick in there.
It being in place, take the handset, and hammer in the nail by using the
phone. (bang it against) (or I did it on the metal counter part below.) The
nail should be in there pretty deep, about 1/2 the length at least of the
nail.
Then, make sure there is a dial tone, (If not, hang up the phone and
proceed.) put hold the handset so that the nail, sticking out of the
mouthpiece is touching a metal part of the phone (the pushbutton pad, or the
part of the lock). Dial the 7-digit phone number, and hold the handset up to
your ear and listen. Someone should answer. If you get the message, "Your
call requires a 20 cent deposit.. blah..", check to see if the nail is in
straight (to complete the circuit), and make sure it's in deep enough, and
did you have the nail touching the phone when you dialed?
Well it should work.. go ahead an talk, with the nail in. If it gets in
the way, just remove it. It won't shock you.
