SMDS - MegaConnect

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

GTE's MegaConnect Switched Multi Megabit Data Service (SMDS) is a data
service that provides packet switching-like features.  It is designed to fit
relatively easily into a customer's data network without causing significant
changes to existing customer equipment.  It serves the rapidly growing need
for connectionless high performance packet switching inter-location
networking.  SMDS provides network access and public switching capabilities
for large business customers with high bandwidth requirements for
interconnecting multilocations.  SMDS is aimed at Local Area Network (LAN)
interconnection and other data communications applications requiring LAN-like
performance and features across a metropolitan or wider area.

This service is used for LAN-to-LAN/LAN-to-Host interconnection and other
customer data applications requiring low delay, network security, and
efficient utilization of data resources.

SMDS targets the high end of the market, providing 56 Kbps to 34 Mbps
transmission speeds at costs below private network alternatives.

FLEXIBLE                   Accommodates Switched bandwidth capabilities at
                           56 Kbps to 34 Mbps.

DATA NETWORKING            Allows customers to integrate with other locations
                           through the MegaConnect service public network
                           without the burden of buying a private network
                           solution.
