01/01 WASHINGTON (AP) -- The number of police officers killed in the line of duty declined to 136 in 1992, the lowest number since 1965, two police organizations say. It was the fourth consecutive year that the number of duty-related deaths fell, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and the Concerns of Police Survivors reported Thursday. The groups attributed the decline to improvements in training, equipment and community support. Last year, 138 officers died in the line of duty. The figure was 120 in 1965.
