01/29 INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) -- A man awakened by the noise of his front door breaking shot and killed the intruder early Friday, police said. Aaron J. Towne, 24, died in a hospital about an hour after Raymond Patterson, 60, shot him. Patterson told police he was awakened by the sound of someone kicking his door in. He said he went downstairs with a .38-caliber revolver and fired a single shot as the intruder came into the house. Towne died of a bullet wound to the chest. Police said Towne's pickup truck was parked two blocks away. They said he had no criminal record they knew of immediately and that Patterson claimed not to know him. Officers speculated Towne may have picked Patterson's house by mistake.
