01/20/1993 LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- An innocent bystander was killed Wednesday as two off-duty policemen exchanged gunfire with a woman after breaking up a fight at an upscale shopping mall in Los Angeles. The incident began about 2:20 a.m. as patrons were spilling out of The Worldnightclub in the Beverly Center, where Officers Michael Sullivan and Barry Blocker were working as off-duty security guards. The officers were breaking up a fight between two women when they saw a third woman in a car pointing a small handgun at them. Police said Sullivan pushed away the woman he had been struggling with, drew his 9mm pistol and fired five rounds at the gunwoman. Police said the woman, identified as Trina Campbell, 22, fired one shot and sped from the mall. Bystander George Wright, 21, was hit once in the lower abdomen and died at a nearby hospital. Detectives said it was not known who fired the fatal shot. Police found the suspect at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in West Los Angeles where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the left arm. She was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder. The two women who had been fighting fled when the gunfire erupted and had not been found. Detectives said one of the women had been a passenger in Campbell's car.
