12/31 INDIANA, Pa. (UPI) -- An Indiana County man was shot and killed and a state trooper was wounded Thursday after the man resisted arrest for allegedly making threats to the county's district attorney. Police attempted to arrest Robert Fortunato at his home in Indiana in the morning. Fortunato resisted, saying charges of making terroristic threats were not true. Fortunato talked to reporters by telephone, saying the charges were related to a letter he wrote to Indiana County District Attorney Michael Handler. Fortunato said he did not threaten the prosecutor, and he was not resisting arrest. A police SWAT team surrounded Fortunato's house at midday. Tear gas was lobbed into the house and police broke in, firing weapons and fatally shooting Fortunato. The state trooper who was wounded was identified as Kevin Colson. He was transferred by helicopter from Indiana Hospital to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with a bullet wound to the face. His condition was not immediately available.
