INTEGRATED SERVICES DIGITAL NETWORK - PACKET SWITCHING (ISDN - PACKET) PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Packet Switching Network Services (PSNS) consists of a packet switch placed in selected LATAs connected via 56/64 Kbps private line circuits to GTE's ISDN Central Offices. Interexchange Packet Carriers connect to the packet switch to enable customers to transmit packet data traffic outside the LATA. This service provides usage-sensitive data transport for a variety of interactive (or bursty) data applications between two or more customer designated locations. Packet switch technology divides data streams into packets. The packet network examines, routes, and transports packets individually without maintaining a physical path between customer locations. Key technical capabilities of ISDN-Packet include: - End-to-end digital transmission over ISDN-compatible network facilities. - Passive bus operation - up to eight ISDN terminals on a single ISDN basic rate interface (BRI) line. - Packet-switched data over B or D channels. B channel up to 64 Kbps. D channel at 9.6 Kbps. - X.25 packet multiplexing over B channels; i.e., multiple virtual D packet sessions on a single B channel.
