Petition campaign is under way. Alaska Needs 2002 signatures of registered voters by August. Organizers expect to have them in a matter of days. Arizona Must have 10,555 signatures, collected between Sept 9 and Sept 19. Organizers are taking names for the signature drive later on. Arkansas No petition is needed, but Perot supporters must hold a statewide convention and nominate him and 6 electors by Sept 15. Organizers expect to hold the convention in mid-May. California Needs 134,781 signatures collected between Apr 24 and Aug 7. Perot's backers are waiting for the petition period to begin starting. Colorado Needs 5000 signatures by Aug 4. Organizers have rented office space in Denver, plan an active effort. Connecticut Needs to get signatures of 14,620 registered voters by Aug 12. Delaware Needs 2870 signatures collected by July 15 and filed by Sept 1. Backers already have collected about 500, are shooting for over 4000. Florida Needs a total of 60,312 signatures, to be in the hands of county elections supervisors by July 15 and certified to the secretary of state by Sept 1. Organizers are getting going in several locations. Georgia Needs 27,000 signatures by July 14. Organizers say they'll try for 60,000 petitions. Hawaii Needs roughly 3700 signatures by Sept 4. Organizers say they expect to collect double that. Idaho Needs 4090 signatures of registered voters by Aug 24. An active effort is under way. Illinois Needs 25,000 signatures of registered voters collected between May 5 and Aug 3. Backers say they expect to gather the needed signatures by mid-May. Indiana Needs 29,919 signatures by July 15. Iowa Backers must collect 1000 signatures by Aug 14 and provide the names of 7 people who will serve as electors to cast the state's vote in the electoral college. An active effort is under way. Kansas Needs 5000 signatures of qualified voters by Aug 3. Kentucky Needs signatures of 5000 registered voters by Aug 27. No Kentucky organizer yet, but state officials report hundreds of calls are coming in. Louisiana Needs 5000 signatures, or payment of a $500 fee, by Sept 1. Backers say they'll probably go the fee route and report they've already got 1000 volunteers. Maine 4000-6000 signatures must be gathered by June 9. Organizers expect to have them by the end of this month. Maryland Needs 63,169 signatures by Aug 4. Organizers say they hope to have the needed petitions by June 1. Massachusetts Needs signatures of 10,000 registered voters by July 28. Vice presidential choice must also be on ballot. Two separate groups were organizing; now they've joined forces. Michigan Needs 25,646 signatures by July 16. Backers say enthusiasm is so great it will only take them a month to get the needed signatures. Minnesota Needs 2000 signatures collected between July 7 and Sept 15 and the names of 10 electors and a running mate. Organizers say they expect to get gather up to 30,000 signatures once they begin. Mississippi Needs 1000 signatures by Sept 4. Backers said in first few days many people had volunteered to help collect signatures and that there's no doubt about getting him on ballot. Missouri Needs roughly 21,000 signatures by Aug 3. Backers hope to have them by June 1. Montana Needs 9531 signatures by July 29. Nebraska Needs 2500 signatures, collected between May 13 and Aug 25, the name of a running mate and 5 electors. Those who vote in primaries cannot sign petitions. Organizers say their informal target once they start collecting signatures is early June. Nevada Needs 9362 valid signatures by June 10. Organizers claim they'll get 10 times that number. Supporters began circulating petitions last week. New Hampshire Needs 3000 signatures from registered voters 1500 in each of the 2 congressional districts by June 12. Organizers expect to get the needed signatures by the end of this month. New Jersey Needs only 800 signatures. Organizers say they already have 1000 volunteers geared up and will have more than enough signatures by the end of this month. New Mexico Needs 12,337 signatures by Sept 8. New York Needs 20,000 signatures, collected between July 7 and Aug 18. Anyone who votes in the Apr 7 primary election is not eligible. At least 100 signatories must come from 17 of the state's 34 congressional districts. North Carolina Needs 68,319 by June 26. Organizers say they've already collected 10,000. North Dakota Needs 4000 signatures by Sept 4. Organizers expect to have them by the end of this month. Ohio Needs between 5000 and 15,000 signatures by Aug 20. State officials report heavy volume of calls from voters seeking information. Oklahoma Needs 34,132 signatures by July 15. Organizers say they'll have twice that number by the end of May. Oregon Supporters are trying to form a minor political party as a way to put Perot's name on the ballot. This requires about 34,000 signatures by Aug 25. Organizers cite keen interest. Pennsylvania Needs 37,000 signatures by Aug 3. State elections officials report receiving many calls. Rhode Island Needs to file a declaration of candidacy by June 24 and 1000 petition signatures by Sept 4. Perot backers say they're shooting for 4000-5000 signatures by the end of July. South Carolina Needs 10,000 signatures by Aug 1. South Dakota Needs 2567 signatures by Aug 4. Backers say over 100 people have already volunteered to help in petition drive, which will begin soon. Tennessee Became the first state to give Perot a spot on the ballot. His volunteers had raised the necessary petitions as of last Monday. Texas Needs 54,000 petitions by May 15 from voters who didn't vote in the Texas primary. Backers say they hope to get the needed signatures, even though time is relatively short and the number needed is large. Utah Needs 300 signatures and a declaration of candidacy by Sept 1. Organizers say they'll have the signatures by the end of this month. Vermont Needs signatures of 1000 voters. The secretary of state's office reports an unusually heavy number of calls about Perot. Virginia Needs signatures of 14,000 registered voters by Aug 21, including at least 200 signers from each of the state's 11 congressional districts. The campaign hopes to get the signatures by July 4. Washington Supporters must hold conventions between June 27 and July 4 and at the convention collect the signatures of 200 registered voters. Volunteers say conventions in several locations will be held June 28. West Virginia Needs to pay $2000 filing fee and collect signatures from 6533 voters. Those who sign petition lose their right to vote in the state's May 12 primary, however. Perot paid the $2000 by check. Wisconsin Needs to gather 2000 signatures in August. More people than that have already called to volunteer their help. Wyoming Needs signatures of 7902 voters by Aug 24. Campaign there just getting started. * * *
