CAUSED BY VIRTUE OR VICE TO THE DISCRIMINATING, ALL IS, AS IT WERE, PAINFUL BECAUSE EVERYTHING BRINGS PAIN, EITHER AS CONSEQUENCE OR AS ANTICIPATION OF LOSS OF HAPPINESS OR AS FRESH CRAVING ARISING FROM IMPRESSIONS OF HAPPINESS, AND ALSO BECAUSE THE GUNAS COUNTERACT ON ANOTHER THE MISERY WHICH HAS NOT YET COME IS TO BE AVOIDED THE CAUSE OF THAT MISERY WHICH IS TO BE AVOIDED IS THE JUNCTION OF THE SEER AND THE SEEN THE SEER IS THE SELF AND THE SEEN IS THE WHOLE NATURE, FROM THE MIND DOWN TO THE GROSS MATTER THE SEEN, WHICH IS COMPOSED OF ELEMENTS AND ORGANS, AND CHARACTERIZED BY ILLUMINATION, ACTION, AND INERTIA, IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF EXPERIENCE AND RELEASE OF THE SEER THE STATES OF THE GUNAS ARE THE GROSS ELEMENTS, THE SUBTLE ELEMENTS, THE COSMIC INTELLIGENCE AND THE SIGNLESS THE SEER IS INTELLIGENCE ONLY, AND THOUGH PURE, SEES THROUGH THE COLORING OF THE INTELLECT THE TRANSFORMATION THAT TAKES PLACE IN THE NATURE OF THE SEEN IS FOR THE SELF THOUGH DESTROYED FOR HIM WHOSE GOAL HAS BEEN GAINED, YET NATURE IS NOT DESTROYED FOR OTHERS, BEING COMMON TO THEM THE ACTIVITY OF NATURE IS TO MAKE THE SOUL KNOW THAT IT IS SEPERATE FROM NATURE JUNCTION OF NATURE AND THE SELF IS THE CAUSE OF THE REALIZATION OF THE NATURE OF THE POWERS OF BOTH THE SEEN AND ITS LORD IGNORANCE IS ITS CAUSE THERE BEING ABSENCE OF THAT IGNORANCE, THERE IS ABSENCE OF JUNCTION. THIS IS THE DESTRUCTION OF IGNORANCE, AND THIS IS THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEER THE MEANS OF DESTRUCTION OF IGNORANCE IS UNBROKEN PRACTICE OF DISCRIMINATION HIS KNOWLEDGE IS ATTAINED IN SEVEN SUPREME STEPS WHEN THIS KNOWLEDGE COMES, IT COMES IN SEVEN STEPS; ONE AFTER ANOTHER AS WE ATTAIN ONE OF THESE WE KNOW THAT WE ARE GETTING KNOWLEDGE. THE FIRST STEP WILL MAKE US FEEL THAT WE HAVE KNOWN WHAT IS TO BE KNOWN. THE SECOND STEP WILL BE THE ABSENCE OF ALL PAIN, IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANYTHING TO GIVE US PAIN. THE THIRD STEP WILL BE THE ATTAINMENT OF FULL KNOWLEDGE, OMNISCIENCE. THE FOURTH STEP WILL BE THE ATTAINMENT, THROUGH DISCRIMINATION, OF THE END OF ALL OUR DUTIES.
