Wolf United States House of Representatives (office 241) Washington, D. C. 20515 Dear Congressman Wolf: We live in a great world- sometimes. But there are a lot of problems in the world that need to be corrected. I am most concerned about the rainforest and its inhabitants. As I was researching for information I realized how bad this problem really is. I knew that it was severe, but after learning the truth, it finally dawned on me- this problem is very serious- and its going to take everyones help to fix it. A large portion of the conflict is clearcutting. That is the procedure in which everything in a certain area is cleared. Every 60 minutes, 50 acres are destroyed. By the time I finish writing this letter, thousands of acres will be gone. Clearcutting is definitely something that we can do without. And it is also the prime factor in the destruction of the rainforest. The key to saving the rainforests is clearcutting. Stopping this selfish routine would be a great beginning for a new world. The Central American and Amazon watersheds are homes to many species and also the worlds main source of oxygen. Because of clearcutting, the rainforests are divided into small islands leaving only a very small selection for mating for many species. Because of this 750,000 of them vanish from the Earth every year. While there are some very caring groups out there that are pushing for conservation steps, there is still not enough love to heal the wounds of this sabotage of the world. Predictions show, that if rainforests are continuously destroyed at the present rate, they will all be gone by the year 2000. As a result of the past clearcutting, many natural disasters (such as hurricanes and the silting of rivers) have occurred. Please consider helping these fragile animals and there homes. If not for the good of the nation, do it for the future generations. Sincerely, (YOUR NAME) (YOUR NAME) (YOUR ADDRESS) (YOUR CITY, STATE, AND ZIP CODE) (YOUR TEACHER/ DATE/ PERIOD) The Honorable Frank R.
