Heracles Heracles is most known for being the strongest of all mortals. He is also stronger than many gods. He is the last son of the god Zeus and his mother was Alcemene, a mortal. Heracles was always hated by Hera. She tried to have him killed a number of times. When Heracles was still an infant Hera snuck three serpents into his bed. Heracles strangled all three of them. Despite is immense strength Heracles was never really smart. He once got so hot he threatened to shoot the sun. Heracles also had strong emotions which ended up frequently getting him in trouble. Once Hera got him so upset that he came home and smashed his wife and children into pulp. His pride was easily offended and he held grudges more then most mortals do. Heracles also liked women, food, and wine more than anything. Even with all of Heralcles deeds his is still looked down to as a primitive violent person. He wore a lions skin with the head still attached and for a weapon carried around a really big club which both support the idea. He ended up wounding many Gods. He even threatened priestess at the sanctuary at Delphi when he didnt get a straight answer from the oracles. He ended up creating most of his problems but, it was because of the problems that he ended up doing his heroic deeds. Still it is not fair to say he is just a savage bruit from the jungle. Heracles had great will power. No one would try to restrain Heracles when he had done something wrong because of his great strength. So he did it himself. The fact that he was willing to serve a severe penance when he could of have just thrown everyone away from him that tried to restrain him shows a good sense of morality. When Hercules splattered his children and wife Heracles had to serve king Eurystheus, his cousin, who made Heracles do the what is known as the Twelve Tasks of Heralces. 1)The first of the labors was to slay the hated Nemean Lion. Heracles got his clothes from the lion. 2) Then he had to slay the hydra. A dreaded nine headed giant serpent who regrew his heads when chopped off. 3&4) The third and fourth labors were to catch the Ceryneian stag with gold horns and then the Erymanthian boar. 5) Next he had to clean the Augean Stables which hadnt been cleaned in thirty years. He changed the course of two rivers to run through the stable and he got it all cleaned in one day. 6) He has to slay the Stymphalian birds. 7) Next Heracles had to capture the Cretan bull. 8) Heracles had to then capture the flesh-eating mares of Diomedes. 9) He then had to get the Amazon queens belt. 10)Heracles had to go and steal the golden apples which were guarded by the four sister nymphs. 11) Then Heracles performed the hardest of the tasks. He went to Hades and captured the Cerberus. When he brought him back to King Eurystheus he made Heracles take him back. Heracles was now free to go. Heracles was killed by his x-wife when he left her for another. She gave him a poisoned cloak that when he put on he was infected and went up to a mountain, built a fire, jumped on to it and died.
