VC:  Tell me, you resisted him, did you?

C:  Of course, as much as I could.

VC:  But he forced you.

C:  No, not exactly, but Ifound it almost impossible to defend
myself.

VC:  Why?  Did he tie you up?

C:  No, no...he just has a way of putting things- you can't think
of an answer.

VC:  Not even "No"?

C:  I kept saying no all the time, but somehow that wasn't what I
was doing. (pause)  I'm so ashamed.

VC:  Do you really want my advice?

C:  Please.

VC:  Allow Monsieur De Valmont to continue with your
"instruction".  Convince your Mother youv'e forgotten Donceney,
and raise no objection to the marriage...

C:(interrupting)  But Mssr. Bastide...?

VC:  When it comes to marriage, one man is as good as the next
and even the least accomodating of husbands is less trouble than
a Mother.

C:  Are you saying that I'm going to have to do that with three
different men?

VC:  What I'm saying- you stupid little girl- is that provided
you take a few simple precautions you can do it or not with as
many men as you like as often as you like and in as many ways as
you like.  Our sex has few enough advantages, you may as well
