Daggerfall Tips

QUEST BUG -
Ever searched high and low for a quest item and have NOT been able to find it? I was in a dungeon, mission to kill a mummy and get the wrapping. There was only one mummy, but he did not have the wrapping. I did go up a level, so I decided that perhaps this triggered the problem. I exited the dungeon, went back in directly to the mummy and this time he had the wrapping that I needed. I cannot confirm that gaining the level triggered the missing quest item, but I CAN confirm that reentering fixed the problem.

MAGE TRAINING -
While this isn't new, it does have a little top spin. You can increase your magic skills by casting spells in an inn, resting, and repeating the process until the skill goes up. The top spin is, that you should visit the mages guild and build spells that are super cheap and only deal with ONE of the 6 spheres of magic. You will be able to cast more spells this way and gain experience faster as a result (i.e. less real world time spent doing something boring). Note: I hope that Bethesda realizes that spells cast in a dungeon should have a 5x multiplier or something towards gaining experience; hotel wizards...what a concept.

BEST SPELL -
Regeneration. Period. Who needs a HEAL spell and a shield when all those hit points are returned.

WHERE TO REST -
Design a DETECT ENEMY spell. When the compass is spinning wildly, you will be able to rest and will not have to pray for luck.

GETTING LUCKY -
If you are certain that a lot of treasure carrying monsteres are nearby, casting a spell to blast you luck to 100 will result in magic items being on 30-50% of them. Move fast and reap your rewards.

RUNNING -
If an overly powerful creature is gaurding a route that you need to take, just run by the creature.

DOORS -
Don't stand too close to a door when you open it... You are vulnerable while opening the door.

SOUNDS -
Many quest creatures makes sounds that you can use to locate the monster. Learn what each creature sounds like and you will find it easier to locate the one that you need to kill.

OPEN -
You can use the OPEN spell to enter stores and clean the stock of the store. No guards will bother you if your stick to the shelves.

DISCARDS -
If you enter larger houses and manors, you will find piles of clothing on the floor. Free gold, take what you want (don't know if this effects your reputation, though).

CAGES -
Every now and again, you will find caged or otherwise trapped creatures. Pickpocket them as often as you like. This will attract the attention of the thieves guild eventually.

SECRET DOORS -
Occassionally, you will find them on your map, and they will look like a normal, unopened door.

GETTING OUT -
When you first enter a dungeon, open the automap and click on the exit area. This makes it easier to spot.

BE RECKLESS -
When travelling, always select the RECKLESS option as it doesn't appear that travelling cautiously has any benefit to speak of (unsure if you heal/regen magic by travelling cautiously).

SAVED GAMES -
Always save prior to asking for a quest from a guild. If you want to advance rapidly in the mages guild, reload if the quest offered is other than a guard mission and then ask again until you get the guard mission (these appear less frequently at higher levels).

SOUL TRAP -
Requires a container. You can buy this container once you are a Magician in the Mages guild.

RECHARGE -
You can cast an ranged spell with a magic device and then use the E key to cancel the spell. The spell points are added to YOUR magic pool. Who needs to sleep?

I hope that these tips were useful.
