All versions of Morse Academy prior to 5.1c used the character * to represent the prosign AR (end of transmission) and + to represent the prosign SK. The accepted CCITT standard for correspondence between computer symbols and Morse symbols has these definitions reversed. Morse Academy is in error, and this has caused problems for some VE test teams in scoring candidates. While most test candidates write AR and SK (with a bar over the letters) on paper when copying a test, some computer literate students write the computer symbols. Only the CCITT definitions are accepted. Beginning with version 5.1c we will reverse these usages so MA conforms to the international standard. Because many students may have memorized the previous keyboard usage, MA will continue to optionally offer the older keyboard support of * for AR and + for SK. It is recommended that all students adopt the new CCITT compliant standard, but we do not insist that you do. Note that if you change this keyboard option after Morse Academy has been initialized with the opposite one, you are responsible for regenerating any tests generated with the first selection. !Deletion of the file (CCITT.TXT) will automatically force MA to select the CCITT standard without offering the option.
