       Q. WHAT IS FDIC ?

       A. Simply put it is your answer to a cluttered unorganized set of
       floppies.

       Q. WHAT DOES IT DO ?

       A. This program allows you the user to input all of the pertinent
information that you will need to effectively know what you
have in the way of diskettes, where you have them and what is
       on them.

       Q. I ALREADY HAVE A DATABASE OF MY DISKETTES WHY WOULD I WANT TO
       CHANGE ?

       A. I find that most people, to include myself either do not have
an organized database or (this is more often than not) use a
program that you must use the program in order to call in your
database, ie., PC-FILE, dBASE, dBXL, First Choice and so on.
With this program that is history. You no longer need an
engine to run the bus because FDIC does it all for you.

       Q. YES, BUT I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF TIME LOADING MY PRESENT DATABASE
INTO WHAT I HAVE NOW AND I DO NOT WANT TO RE-TYPE ALL OF THAT
       INFORMATION AGAIN!

       A. OLAY!!, you don't have to. If you are presently using any
database that uses the .dbf extension or is compatible, you do
not need to do that. Before you run FDIC for the first time,
place your .dbf file, minus the index files (.ndx extension)
onto the same diskette that FDIC is on and simply type FDIC.
You will see that upon initialization of FDIC it will
automatically index your existing database. For those fields
I have added that you may not have, simply just use the
(M)odify command located at the bottom of the screen and
add/change to suit your needs. THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT!

*NOTE* For those fields listed in FDIC that you may not have, you must
first go into your present database and add the fields. You do
not need to add data to these at this point. Just need to add
them so your .dbf file will understand them. The following is
the field name on screen and the corresponding field your
           database must have.

SCREEN LIST NAME DATABASE FIELD KEY
                                           Ŀ
           category category
           software title program
           disk disk
           disk# one
           of two
           format format these are the
           copy protection protection field names
           compressed compressed you must add
           version# ver for an
           comments comments existing .dbf

Of course, if you are not adding an existing database
this does not apply and you can just delete the three files
I have as an example with the (D)el command and start adding
         your records.

I could write on and on about all the features that you can
use and need to know but they are all on the command line at the
bottom of each screen. Need the definition of a command, just
press the (H)elp key and it gives you two easy to read pages of
each command and its description. When using the (L)ist command,
in order to display all records in the present .dbf ensure you are
at the beginning (B)eg of the report. If not, all that will be
listed is all files from the point of the display to the end.

Reports Menus allows you to print a complete listing of your
database file. It indexes on (Ascending) Category, Software Title
       and then Disk #.

File Maintenance Menus allows you to backup your .dbf, .fmt, .rpt
and .ndx files to either the a:> or b:> drives.

One more thing! Your printer MUST BE online when selecting the
reports menu. If not, a blank screen will appear. Play with FDIC
and if you enjoy it and use it, please register for the small fee
       that I request.

                            NOW FOR THE MONEY THING!!

As with all Shareware Authors a lot of time has been spent in the
development of this program and to encourage us to keep this low
cost medium out here at a reasonable price you should register
those programs that you find useful and use on a regular basis. I
set no limits as to your evaluation time, although thirty days is
usually sufficient. Try FDIC for yourself, if you find it useful
my wife begs you that you send a donation of $3.00. If you send
$6.00 you will automatically receive one free update whenever any
significant changes are made (no time limitations). If registered
at $6.00 you are a life member of this program and can always send
a diskette along with applicable postage ($2.00) and receive the
latest version at no additional cost. This is in lieu of receipt of
your first free update. I will be releasing many programs like this
one (easy to use) in the near future so if their is a particular
application you would like to see, please write me and let me
know. I want to stay with these simple programs that a novice and
an experienced user can use and enjoy without going through a
       myriad of keystrokes to perform.

      Thank You,

      Scott M. Gray

My friends all seem to ask me why did I
not hold back some features like the
other shareware packages out there. They
say that people will not register a pro-
gram that totally works and only register
those that don't so they can get all the
features. I DO NOT THINK THIS IS TRUE!
If you like it you buy it if not you don't
