"Deja Vu" or locked in a time warp?
                        The Col. Peck Resignation Play
                         By Mary Howard P.O.W. Network

From Parade Magazine March 22, 1987

WHY I ADMIRE THEM The whistle-blower is our principal protection
against the designs of public and corporate wrongdoers. He dares
to expose a lie or an embarassment or a scandal that the people
in power have conspired to conceal. His likely reward is a
counterattack; he risks retatliation, perhaps ruin.

For 39 years, I have dealt with this rare breed. I know
something about the psychology of one who has a dark secret and
is teetering on the brink of disclosing it. Instinctively, he
wants to stay hidden, exposure could cost him his livelihood and
lay him open to the most depressing harrasments. So, for weeks,
he hangs immobilized between attacks of conscience and
      nightmares of retribution.

Most of the time, he never comes forward. Based on a survey of
government workers by Merit Systems Protection Board, it is
      estimated that, every year, 200,000 would-be whistle-blowers
shrink back from the brink and remain silent. But a courageous
few do step forth and blow the whistle on fraud, abuse and
incompetence. So I keep a light burning in the window for the
      storm-tossed whistle- blower. ---Jack Anderson

From New York City Tribune, April 19, 1988

"When Solarz attempted to cut off long, emotional speeches by
some supporting the bill, members of the audience screamed 'This
is America, Congressman' and 'Sit down, you've had your turn'.
Solarz, visibly angered, retorted 'I'm the chairman of this
forum and from now on I'm running the show.'"

Previous statements by Cong. Solarz include "I am proud to be a member
   of "Annie's Kitchen Cabinet".

He walked out of a forum he called in Brooklyn on April 17, 1988 prior
to its conclusion, just as he walked out prior to the conclusion of the
closed door session of the committee hearing with Col. Peck. How can he
comment that someone does not have convincing evidence, if he was not in
attendance, and therefore has no idea what is said?

As Col. Peck was sworn in, a rarety in open session, who was the
watchdog for those sitting on that hearing platform? What oath of truth
   did they take?

Congressman McCloskey, of Indiana, was interested in Bobby Garwood - and
has truly been an active participant gaining information on the issue.
He and Congressman Roth do feel that Americans are not expendable, but
they too, may not know the entire depth of this issue.

Congressman Hyde continued his need for an attitude adjustment. His
belief in the 5th Amendment and freedom of speech stops short when he
doesn't like what he hears. Seeing as the Congressman from Illinois
claims to have read "all" there is on the POW issue, why did he not have
questions for Col. Peck so as to help Cong. Solarz "shed some light on
   the very serious allegations"?

Congressman Bob Smith showed himself to be a man of integrity when he
said that Col. Peck's testimony had tremendous substance, and was
revealing, in press statements made after the ENTIRE closed door session
   was adjourned.

Congressman John Miller proved to be well informed on the issue, and
truly disillusioned when informed that recent live sighting reports of
our KOREAN VETERANS had not been followed up. His continued efforts of
   behalf of POW's is commendable.

Once again, Anne Mills Griffith name was brought out as a true stumbling
block in the issue. Her security clearance without proper background
check, her membership in the Interagency Group as a decision maker and
now her alteration of documentation show a need for the National League
of Families to clean house, or remain forever lost in the halls of the
remains seekers. Although Col. Peck never named names, it was the
committee that allowed her name to be introduced in open session.
Congressman Solarz's defense of her reputation instead of questioning
her under oath, truly shows a lack of respect for the families she is
supposed to represent in negotiations for missing and captive loved
ones. Congressman Solarz was adament that Ms. Griffiths is highly
respected and has dedicated her life to resolving this issue. But has
she sold her soul for a life in world wide travel and elbow rubbing? She
surely does not represent thousands of family members that have left the
League, or joined the National Alliance, or that work on their own, as
they trust NO ONE any more.

The highest National priority is locked in a time warp. H.R. 2260
revisited. No one reads the Tighe report, or the Interim Report or the
Live sighting reports because they all believe that numerous
investigations showed no cover-up. They no longer listen to their
constituents being more worried about the reputation of one another,
than local concerns. They use form letters that haven't changed and they
   never answer your questions.

Thank God for the Col. Pecks, and Tom Ashworths and Jesse Helmses and
H.R. Perots. Freedom has a high price to pay, and they are not about to
let this issue become a dead issue. They truly can sleep at night,
knowing that some of us listen, and care about what they say. And if we
value their integrity, and the price they are paying we cannot sit idly
by and let them take the heat and not share in the firefight.

Cong. John Miller WA, Cong. Francis McCloskey IN, Cong. Toby Roth WI,
Cong. Lagarmasino NY and Cong. Gilman NY, need to hear that Ann Mills
Griffiths does not represent all family members.

Cong. Solarz and Cong. Hyde need to be reminded that they need a course
in civility and how to listen. They both believe they are invincible and
can do no wrong. They need to know that they have not seen all the
information. Or, if they have, their nighmares come from those
constituents and Prisoners they have abandoned and ignore as they spend
each day passing bills for "National Pickle Week or National Hog Day".

Col. Peck needs to know we care.

Asian and Pacific Affairs needs to know we won't give up.

The Salem witch hunts cannot be relived in our great halls of Congress.
Let all the truth be known, let all the rebuttal witnesses be sworn in.

Perjury is never an ending, because the truth will always come out.
