OFFER

Look also for WinMerge 1,0 (WMERGE10.ZIP). It will merge several
ASCII-text or Windows Write WRI files into one ASCII file. It is
straightforward, easy to use and fast. Except normal text files
you can also merge BBS index files found on some CDROMs and get
a good index. Register now both, WinMerge and WinSplit, for
a special price of 15.00 US Dollars.

HOW TO USE

SPLIT A FILE

- To split a file, click on the editbox (just above the -Join files-
  button) and enter the number of the pieces you want, min 2 max 9.
- press the -Split files- button
- with the fileselector search the file you are splitting and press -OK-
- now, the filename, number of the pieces and their size is shown in
  the infobox
- at this time it is possible to cancel the operation with the -Quit- button
- if the size of the parts is right, just press -Split files- again.
- WinSplit always writes the pieces into its start-up directory.

FILENAME AND EXTENSION

The following format is used for naming the pieces. The filename is
the same as the original file. Filename extensions are numbers, from
001 to 009, depending of the number of the pieces. If you split several
files, it is possible that some of the files have the same name but
extensions differ, for example FILE.EXE, FILE.DLL, FILE.TXT. In this
case, WinSplit will change the first two numbers of the extension,
therefore the extension may vary from 001 to 999. The following example
will specify the naming, three files are splitted into 3, 4 and 2 pieces.

FILE.EXE -> FILE.001, FILE.002, FILE.003
FILE.DLL -> FILE.021, FILE.022, FILE.023, FILE.024
FILE.TXT -> FILE.031, FILE.032

It is important to understand this naming system in order to keep the
right files groupped when you copy them to floppies. With Windows
FileManager, sort the directory by filetype and you have the filegroups
in consecutive order.

JOIN THE PIECES BACK

- To join the previously splitted pieces back to the original condition,
  press the - Join files- button.
- Search the first part of the files with the fileselector. The extension
  filter is set to ??1, because the first piece of the files always ends
  with 1.
- WinSplit now collects all the pieces and joins them back to one file.
- You must always have all the pieces in the same subdirectory. If the
  pieces are on disks WinSplit will prompt you for the next disk.
- WinSplit always writes the output file into its start-up directory,
  why you must always start it from hard disk.
- WinSplit knows the original filename, size and the number of the pieces.
  If an error appears it is shown in the infobox.

- QUIT will close the program.
