This upgrade provides the following fixes and enhancements:
    * Fixes invalid user protocol alias causing 554 error.
    * Correctly decodes MIME attachments.
    * Stops NULL and BELL characters from locking port 25 and stopping mail
flow.
    * Fixes messages coming from a user via a list server causing an ABEND.
    * Fixes Alaska time zone issues.
    * In ngmadmin, this server, edit configuration file, under the ngmsmpt

The following item was not fixed:
    * There are some source routing issues not fixed in this release. (When a

Installation Instructions:

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO FIRST?
                         ------------------

This patch is designed to upgrade SMTP version 1.20
to SMTP version 1.21. If you have an NGMSMTP.NLM
dated before '1-17-96', this upgrade procedure will not
work. To determine your current SMTP version, type 'MODULES'
at the server console prompt and verify that the version
number for 'NGMSMTP.NLM' is 1.20. If you have received any
patch release releases, 1.20 beta releases or special
SMTP releases, you will need to contact your local Novell
representative to receive instructions on how to upgrade
your system. This patch process will not change the version
number of SMTP as it is reported from within NetWare's
INSTALL/PRODUCT OPTIONS listing. INSTALL will continue to
display the original SMTP version number. For information on
installing
1.20, refer to your "NetWare Global Messaging SMTP Protocol Module
           Administrator's Guide", part number 100-003508-001.

UPGRADING FROM versions 1.20 to 1.21
                         ------------------

This file describes how to upgrade SMTP for NetWare Global MHS
 versions 1.20 to 1.21.

                      WHICH FILES ARE UPGRADED?
                         ------------------
The following file is modified during the SMTP 1.21 upgrade procedure.

      1. NGMSMTP.NLM

This upgrade does not change maximum number of licensed users for your
installation.

                       UPGRADING YOUR SERVER
                         ------------------

 1. Log in to your NGM server as supervisor.

 2. Verify that your server has at least 2 MB of free hard disk space.
This is the recommended minimum required to perform this upgrade.

 3. Unload NGMSMTP.NLM.

 4. The contents of the SMTP for NetWare Global MHS patch is as follows:

         1. README.TXT (This file)
         2. NGMSMTP.NLM

 5. Copy the patch (SMT121.EXE) to the NGM server and extract the patch.

 6. In the .\NGM\BIN directory, rename NGMSMTP.NLM to NGMSMTP.OLD. Then copy
the
new NGMSMTP.NLM into the .\NGM\BIN directory.

 7. Copy the new README.TXT file to the .\NGM\SMTP directory.

 8. If you want to undo your upgrade and return your installation to its
previous state, perform the
     following procedure.

o To restore your system, unload NGMSMTP.NLM, verify that in the
.\NGM\BIN directory
there is a file call NGMSMTP.OLD, if there is, delete NGMSMTP.NLM
and rename
            NGMSMTP.OLD to NGMSMTP.NLM. Then reload NGMSMTP.NLM.

o Verify the original files have been correctly re-installed.

This upgrade provides the following fixes and enhancements:

    * Fixes invalid user protocol alias causing 554 error.

    * Correctly decodes MIME attachments.

    * Stops NULL and BELL characters from locking port 25 and stopping mail
flow.

    * Fixes messages coming from a user via a list server causing an ABEND.

    * Fixes Alaska time zone issues.

    * In ngmadmin, this server, edit configuration file, under the ngmsmpt
heading, when SMTP-
Outbound-Format=MIME-UUE is defined, the X-UUE header was changed to X-
UUENCODE for compatibility with the GroupWise gateway.

The following item was not fixed:

    * There are some source routing issues not fixed in this release. (When a
user tries to send a
message using source routing, ngmsmtp puts #'s in the return address.
When someone tries
to reply to one of these messages, ngmsmtp fails)

 GroupWise 5 Upgrade Details

Any MHS customer who purchases the upgrade to GroupWise 4.1 after August 1,
1996 is
entitled to free GroupWise 5 mailbox licences. This offer will allow
GroupWise 4.1 users to
purchase GroupWise now at the upgrade price and to upgrade to GroupWise 5 at
no additional
cost (except shipping, handling, and applicable tax). MHS customers who have
purchased
GroupWise 4.1 upgrade licences have until January 31, 1997 to submit
applications for a free
 GroupWise 5 upgrade.

GroupWise 5 is the culmination of a multi-year effort to combine the openness
of MHS with the
robust functionally of the GroupWise Messaging system into a single Messaging
standard.
GroupWise 5 is an expanded client/server E-mail system that is the first in
the industry to include
full document management capabilities as part of a new Universal Mail Box.
GroupWise 5 helps
companies leverage their corporate network investments by providing an instant
collaborative
solution for the corporate intranet. Building on its predecessor, GroupWise
4.1, GroupWise 5
also seamlessly integrates calendaring/scheduling, task management, shared
folders, threaded
conferencing, workflow, remote and Internet access into the Universal Mail
Box.

A platform-independent Messaging solution, GroupWise 5 supports eight client
and six server
platforms, in addition to industry-standard communication and Messaging
protocols. It provides
an open, extensible architecture, which can be enhanced by customers, VARs and
third-party
developers through the use of industry-standard and GroupWise-specific APIs.
Some of these
Messaging APIs include MAPI, CMC/CSA, and SMF-71 through the GroupWise MHS
Services
Adapter. By leveraging single-point administration through its master
directory, Novell
Directory Services (NDS), GroupWise also allows network administrators to
centrally and
hierarchically manage users, groups, network devices and applications.
