AB Hepatitis C virus establishes a persistent infection in humans and
chimpanzees despite virus-specific cell-mediated immune responses.
Available data suggest that these responses do provide some control of
ongoing hepatitis C virus replication and are an important factor
       contributing to chronic hepatitis.
