                           WICEN News

This is a reminder that the now internationally-famous WICEN
(NSW) Web page is located underneath the WIA (New South Wales)
Divisional page, as "http://sydney.dialix.oz.au/~wiansw/wicen/".
Please note that it is "still under construction", but links to
pages of interest to WICEN personnel are constantly being added.
A feature soon to be added (and which may already be in place by
now, if the WICEN (NSW) "Webmaster" can get his act together) is
a "Guest Book" and other interactive features, such as the abili-
ty to request further information. Naturally, this will be ex-
tended, so that joining WICEN will be no more than a mouse-click
away; it is expected that the VK2 Division itself will soon im-
plement these features, again making New South Wales the technol-
ogy leader, so perhaps those bodies still using telephone BBSs
may like to take note of the benefits provided by the Internet.

The WICEN calendar already has several events upon it. As far as
we know, the only event this month is the Management Committee
meeting on Saturday the 20th, at the usual place and time. The
Central Coast Amateur Radio Club Field Day, an event not to be
missed for publicity purposes, is on 25th February, and since we
will not have the caravan this time, then your ideas are request-
ed; please let the Publicity Officer, Dave VK2KFU, know whether
you can assist.

The famous Bungonia Cave Rescue event rears its head again, over
the weekend of 16-17th March, and Mark VK2XGK would like to hear
from those wishing to demonstrate their communications skills,
under somewhat difficult circumstances, before an adoring audi-
ence (we don't tell them about the repeater on the hill!); the
potential for publicity here, before various emergency services
and the public, should not be overlooked. On the same weekend,
on 17th March, is the Red Cross Calling Doorknock Appeal, with
Andy VK2XRX in charge.

Finally, there are the two big annual events; the City to Surf
Fun Run is on 11th August, and the Hawkesbury Classic Paddle,
once more missing JOTA which is the weekend before, is on 26-27th
October.

Those regions wishing to have their activities publicised on this
broadcast are requested to get the details to the Publicity Offi-
cer, Dave VK2KFU, by Thursday night at the latest. Packet radio
is the preferred medium, to the VK2KFU system itself (AX.25 or
TCP/IP), or failing that, to VK2DAA, VK2OP, or VK2GJB.

WICEN is always looking for members to provide the community with
communications assistance. Write to WICEN (NSW) Inc, PO Box 123,
St Leonards 2065 for further information, or come up on one of
the WICEN nets: Blue Mountains each Monday at 8.30pm on 7175 sim-
plex, Northern Rivers each Tuesday at 8pm around 3610 kHz on odd
Tuesdays and the Lismore repeater 6800 on even Tuesdays, Hunter
each Wednesday at 7.30pm on the Newcastle repeater 6900, the
State-wide HF net each Wednesday at 8.30pm around 3610 kHz, Cen-
tral Coast each Thursday at 8.30pm on the Wyong repeater 7125,
and Sydney each Thursday at 9.30pm on the Chatswood repeater
7150/8275.

If there are any other regular nets then we'd like to hear about
them.
