Shannon River Run

As announced last week, a number of groups are planning to
activate some rare squares and EI counties over the weekend of
April 12th, 13th and 14th next.

The event, to be known as the Shannon River Run, will involve up
to six Emerald Star Line cruisers, equipped and crewed by EI, GI
and GW operators.

With cruisers operating out of both Portumna and Carrick, it
should be possible to activate all the squares and counties along
the length of the Shannon, from Leitrim to Killaloe, over the
weekend.

Crews would embark Friday afternoon and radio operation would
commence at 1800z. Cruisers would return Sunday at 1800z.

As well as QSL cards, a special certificate will be awarded to all
stations contacting all the cruiser mobiles over the weekend.

A special all-in rate of 180 per 6 berth cruiser has been agreed,
i.e. 30 per operator. Diesel is included in the price and the
only extra cost will be for refreshments.

Further details from Paul Martin EI2CA QTHR or phone 01-4900637

Contests

Some of the most popular contests for EI operators are happening
over the next few weeks.

The ARRLCW contest will be held over next weekend, February
17/18th, starting at midnight Friday to midnight Sunday. This is
the opportunity for CW operators to get those missing States for
their Worked All States award.

The following weekend, February 23rd to the 25th is a very busy
one, with the CQ Worldwide SSB Top Band Contest starting at 2200
on Friday night and running until 1600 on Sunday. Conditions on
Top Band for the CW leg recently were outstanding and there will
never be a better chance for the smaller stations to work some new
countries.

Another popular contest that weekend is the Belgian organized UBA
CW contest. This is only a 24 hour event but offers the EEC Trophy
for the highest placed EEC station.

Also on that weekend is the French REF CW and the RSGB 7MHz
contests.

The ARRL SSB Contest will be held over the weekend of March 2nd
and 3rd and the BARTG RTTY contest will be held on March 16th and
17th.

If you need further information on any contest, contact the
Contest manager Paul OKane EI5DI at QTHR or Newsletter Editor
Dave EI4BZ.
