Introduction to the YAS Family History Section

------------------------------------------------------------------

SERVICES

We publish a journal 'The Yorkshire Family Historian' six times
a year, beginning mid-February. Everyone is invited to send in
articles, information, etc. Requests for help are published. We
keep you up to date with new publications, activities of other
sections etc.

* LINK

Should you need information from a distant library or Record
Office and cannot get there yourself, under this scheme some
members have volunteered to go there on your behalf, to look at
specific items, for the cost of their expenses. We also offer a
'photo' link service operating in a similar manner.
Applications for these services should include Member's
Membership Number.

* BIRTH BRIEFS

A Surname Referral Index is kept by one of our members, and on
joining the section everyone is invited to contribute their
areas of interest. A form is issued with the first copy of the
journal on which full details can be entered.

* PROJECTS & PUBLICATIONS

The Section is involved with many projects, indexing census
returns, parish registers, etc., recording monumental
inscriptions, maintaining a 'Strays' register and a Wills &
Beneficiaries index. We publish many of our projects including
indexed census returns. A full list of our current publications
is available on request. (SAE please)

MEETINGS

A programme of lectures usually at monthly intervals take place
at Claremont either on Saturdays or Wednesday evenings.

MICROFICHE

The Section has several readers. We have the 1881 census index
for England and Wales, the latest I.G.I. fiche, National Strays
fiches, and various other indexes.
