Introduction
------------

There are a lot of resources out there for the average X-fan. You are
interested in them. You ask people where they are. You can not find
them.

The purpose of the Where Can I Find It? FAQ is to answer the question
"Where can I find it?" This FAQ has been reorganized so you can just go
to one section and see all of the resources of a particular type. For
example, the fans of Gambit will look under GAMBIT and will find two web
pages and a mailing list at their fingertips.

So start looking! Sheesh!

SECTION A: Major Resources: Where To Look First
-------------------------------------------------

*** news.announce.newusers and news.newusers.questions

The FAQs in news.announce.newusers cover more of the topics on general
Usenet and Internet policies and netiquette than any sane individual
could ever have an interest in. Check out that and
news.newusers.questions for any of your basic netting questions.

*** idyllmtn.com

This is the new clearinghouse for *all* of the rec.arts.comics.* FAQs.
The best thing is that all of these FAQs will be available through ftp
and web access. *Please* read the appropriate FAQs before posting to
this or any other rac.* newsgroup!

idyllmtn.com FAQ site
       http://www.idyllmtn.com/rac/
       ftp://ftp.idyllmtn.com/pub/rac/

*** Jane Griffin's FAQ Page

Jane decided that the rac.mx FAQ needed a home to call its own, so she
provided this FAQ Page for both the General rac.mx FAQs and Kate's Read
Before Posting and Where Can I Find It? FAQs. It has also got a lot of
other cool stuff on it, so check it out. Feel free to leave FAQ
comments in Jane's suggestion page.

*** The Uncanny X-Page and The Mutant Page

The mutant page was set up by Steve Thoemke. This is the Original X-Men
home page, and the inspiration for Marty Blase's Uncanny X-Page. Both
of these pages have *tons* of information-- you could spend a good
couple of hours just browsing through parts of Blaze's Uncanny X-Page.
Almost everything listed above and below is linked through one of these
pages. They also have links to a dozen other Comics pages and
newsgroups.

The Uncanny X-Page
       http://www.mallorn.com/~m-blase/xpage/links/

*** ftp.hiof.no

Jon Lovstad (jonal@dhhalde.no) has kindly set up an ftp site in
Norway for all of the rac.* comic-related material-- and I do mean
practically ALL of it-- at ftp.hiof.no. There's tons of stuff there --
just go into the /pub/Comics directory. Feel free to look around, but
the stuff of interest to .xbooks is in (naturally) the /pub/Comics/X-Men
directory. There are also some interesting X-related materials in the
/pub/Comics/FAQ directory. *PLEASE NOTE* that this site is a bit old,
so you may find more up-to-date information on the Uncanny X-Page above
than you will in these files.

       ftp://ftp.hiof.no/pub/Comics/FAQ/

*** ftp.sunet.se

If you want pictures, a whole huge bunch of them are at ftp.sunet.se
in the /pub/pictures/comics/Marvel directory. Feel free to look
around. Check the README files. Download to your heart's content.

ftp.sunet.se
       ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/pictures/comics/Marvel/

*** ftp.uu.net

Are you sick of telling people to read the charter? Do you wonder what
the original .xbooks charter was supposed to include? Look no further!
The RFD, CFV, vote ack, and charters for every reorganization vote in
the past few years can be found at ftp.uu.net. Organized by hierarchy
for your convenience.

ftp.uu.net Newsgroup Creation Documents

*** Yahoo

Like a lot of other WWW servers and search methods, Yahoo has a pretty
complete list of all the stuff you could ever want to find related to
comics.  Start out in Entertainment if you really have time to browse;
otherwise just skip right to the Comic Books section and down to X-Men.

*** DejaNews

Does your own news server go weird on you? Do you know the subject or
author, but not the date an article was posted? Then turn to the Gopher
Server. It can sort the recent newsgroup articles in a variety of ways,
saving you the hassle of getting organized.

SECTION B: Usenet, rac.* and rac.mx FAQs
-----------------------------------------

If you have not read these yet, do so. Trust me. Go find them.

*** The rec.arts.comics.* General FAQs

The standard rac.* FAQs (posted monthly to rac.info and rac.misc) have a
bunch of interesting and important information for any comics fan.
Checking them out is never a bad idea. These are also known as the
"Uber-FAQs."

Keeper: The RAC-FAQ committee (rac-faq@idyllmtn.com)
At: http://www.idyllmtn.com/pub/rac/uber/

*** The General RACMX FAQ

The rec.arts.comics.marvel.xbooks general FAQ (posted monthly to rax.mx)
is kept by Jane Griffin. We know you have questions. So this document
answers as many of the frequently-asked X-Men questions as possible. As
always, any comments, updates, or random comments on that FAQ should
be sent to the FAQ Keeper, who will happily process them.

Keeper: Jane Griffin (gryphon@u.washington.edu)
At: Jane's FAQ page

*** The RACMX Read Before Posting FAQ

This FAQ was made with the newer reader and poster in mind. To sum it
up, it tells you what things you should post to rac.mx, where you should
post them if they do not belong here, why you should do certain
technical things to your posts, and the reasons behind all of the above.

Keeper: Kate the Short (katew@cicero.spc.uchicago.edu)
At: Jane's FAQ page

*** The RACMX Where Can I Find It FAQ

This is the one you are reading right now.

If you have any additions, clarifications, or questions, please e-mail
them to the FAQ Keeper. She cannot keep up with everything, you know!

Keeper: Kate the Short (katew@cicero.spc.uchicago.edu)
At: Jane's FAQ page

*** Publications

Culled from the FAQ, this is a list of all the titles that have been
published for and about the X-Men, including regular titles, cancelled
titles, limited series, special editions, and the like. It can be found
with the FAQ on Jane's FAQ page.

Keeper: Jane Griffin (cal711@u.washington.edu)
At: Jane's FAQ page

SECTION C: General rac.mx and rac.o-m FAQs
-------------------------------------------

Most of the following are FAQs which were posted at a more-or-less
regular schedule on rec.arts.comics.xbooks. In all cases, you should
attempt to find the FAQ in question from an ftp site before asking the
FAQ Keeper for help; trust me, this greatly helps the FAQ Keeper keep
her sanity below the boiling point (there are a lot of curious netters
out there!). Some things listed here are not, to be perfectly honest,
technically FAQs, and some have not been posted since rac.x became
rac.mx, but why split hairs when we are trying to be helpful?

*** The Dangling X-Titles Plot List

The list of all the storylines, supporting characters, and mysterious
asides that all the various X-writers throughout history have introduced
but never quite gotten around to following up on. As you can see, this
is no small task, and the Passing of the X-Danglers is usually a yearly
ritual on .xbooks, as the most recent Keeper hurls it bodily across the
net, crying "No more! I must see the sun!", and the task falls to some
other foolish, er, wonderful volunteer. A very useful document by any
measure for the serious X-fan. Paul has done a lot of updating on this
project, and it now includes, among other things, danglers for basically
every X-title in existence, including the New Mutants.

Keeper: Paul O'Brien (prob@tattoo.ed.ac.uk)
At: http://www.mallorn.com/~m-blase/xpage/texts/danglersFAQ/

*** The X-Men Creators List

Created by Eric Stieglitz, it has been taken over by Paul O'Brien. It is
a list that tries to stay current with the writer, penciller, and
editor of every X-title -- a mighty assignment indeed. Despite its
name, it covers all the X-titles, not just the X-Men. How Paul can keep
up this list *and* the X-Title Dangler List is one of the great
mysteries of modern times.

Keeper: Paul O'Brien (prob@tattoo.ed.ac.uk)
At: http://www.mallorn.com/~m-blase/xpage/texts/XCreators.txt

*** The Summers Family Tree

Brucha put together this family tree from hell one day, and it hasn't
stopped growing since! Even more fascinating are the links to the rest
of the Marvel Universe (including most of the Fantastic Four), and
Brucha's detailed notes on who is time-displaced, cloned, or both.

Keeper: Brucha S. Meyers (bmeyer1@icarus.cc.uic.edu)
At: http://icarus.cc.uic.edu/~bmeyer1/summers-tree.80-col

*** The X-Men Characters List

One of Martin Phipps' two FAQs, this one is a list that actually does an
almost complete job of listing every single character of importance
since the whole X-Universe started with X-Men #1. Contains very terse
information on each character, and also has "last appeared" notes for
the more important ones. Martin informs me that there is no truth to
the rumor that Psylocke is the first heading to be updated every month.

Keeper: Martin Phipps (cxmp@musica.mcgill.ca)
At: http://www.mallorn.com/~m-blase/xpage/texts/XCharacters.txt

*** X-Men History

Martin Phipps' other list. A very short condensation of the major
events of X-Men (and related titles) history. Not the same as the X-Men
Files, below, which are issue-by-issue recitations of the plot.

Keeper: Martin Phipps (cxmp@musica.mcgill.ca)
At: ftp://ftp.hiof.no/pub/Comics/FAQ/

*** The X-Men Files

Quick, pithy summaries of issues #120-#280 of the Uncanny X-Men title.
Written by Rick Jones, these are one of the more commonly available
files in ftp sites.

Keeper: None (not currently being updated)
At: ftp://ftp.hiof.no/pub/Comics/FAQ/

*** X-Men Reprint Guide

This was originally handled by Bruce Precourt. Sonja Mendoza then put
together a much more detailed version, but it was Ken Arromdee who came
through with the all-time grandfather of reprint lists. Ken insists
that I point out that his list is not a FAQ, that he will only repost it
when he feels like it, and other such public notices. Gotcha, Ken. It
really is a good list, however.

Keeper: Ken Arromdee (arromdee@bay1.bayserve.net)
At: http://www.mallorn.com/~m-blase/xpage/texts/XmenReprintList.txt

*** X-Men Continuity FAQ

Eric Borer has undertaken the phenomenal task of getting *all* the
X-titles in order of continuity, creating a timeline of the entire
X-Universe issue by issue. Believe it or not, this also includes those
odd Avengers and New Warriors crossover issues! Extremely helpful if
you only collect certain titles, or are shopping for back issues.

Keeper: Eric Borer (borere@aol.com)
At: http://www.mallorn.com/~m-blase/xpage/texts/continuityFAQ.txt

*** The Pissed-Off X-Fan FAQ

When you just can't take it any more, take solace that Jennifer Vodvarka
cracked before you did, and left this stunning monument to her last
moments of sanity as a record of an X-Fan who just... couldn't...
take... NO MORE! Not exactly the most useful FAQ in the world, but none
matches its unique flavor. Jen threatened to do a Pissed-Off X-Fan FAQ
II, which the world was probably not ready for, let alone deserved, but
this threat to life and sanity has so far failed to materialize,
probably due to Jen finally graduating and achieving a higher state of
being.

Keeper: was Jennifer Vodvarka (vodka@netcom.com)
At: http://www.mallorn.com/~m-blase/xpage/texts/PissedOffXfanFAQ.txt

*** X-Men Animated Series Episode Guides

Marty Blase compiled this episode guide directly from the blurbs sent
out by the Fox Kids network people. Currently, this topic is posted in
rec.arts.comics.other-media, so look for this FAQ there as well.

Keeper: Marty Blase (m-blase@uiuc.edu)
At: http://www.mallorn.com/~m-blase/xpage/texts/XmenAnimated2.txt

*** X-Movie Cast Roster (aka the X-Movie Casting Call)

For thousands of years, mankind has debated the significant problem of
who, exactly, should play what role if a movie based on the X-Men should
ever be made? Unfortunately, great advances in this important field
were stymied, due to incomplete records of previous debates on the
matter. To rectify this situation, David R. Henry started keeping a
list of every single casting suggestion ever made on the topic, and it
is quite big now. Babysat briefly by Greenstool and Alasdair, it is now
in the capable hands of Kate Martin. The X-Movie Cast Roster, updated
whenever a new flood of newbies brings up the subject again, is posted
usually amid much screaming and tears from the older netters. Now that
the X-Movie is posted in rec.arts.comics.other-media, you do not see the
FAQ anywhere else nearly as often as you used to. Look for it in
rac.other-media, or whenever you see the dread subject header appear
again in your newsreader.
