Author of the QRZ! Ham Radio CDROM

   I am interested in receiving amateur-radio-related public-domain
and/or shareware programs, data bfiles, frequency lists, etc., that
would make a useful edition to the QRZ! CDROM. Can help arrange volume
discounts for clubs and groups, and will donate copies of QRZ! to
   qualifying non-profit organizations. Send E-mail or call +1 602
   483-2036.

We now have the QRZ! FTP archive and QRZ! WWW server online, 24 hours
a day. Our connection is via a T1 line so you should get pretty decent
   file transfer times.

We've got about 7,000 files online, including radio mods, software,
most everything imaginable. We are also accepting uploads of all ham
   radio related material.

Feel free to stop by and have a look:

     * ftp://ftp.qrz.com/
     * http://www.qrz.com/ (WWW interface to the FTP archive as well as a
       Callsign database server)

Authors of ham radio shareware programs, data files, mods, etc., are
invited to contribute their materials to the QRZ! anonymous ftp server
   above.

I would also like to thank those who have volunteered in helping port
the QRZ! source code to a wide variety of platforms. In the next
edition, we'll have support for DOS, Windows, OS/2, Windows NT, Sun,
NeXT, SGI, Linux, AIX, and HP/UX executables, directly on the disk.

Notably not mentioned is Macintosh, which so far has been a bit
troublesome to put together. If anyone who can program in 'C' on a
Macintosh would care to volunteer, please let me know. Although there
is an experimental Mac interface at this time, I'd like to make it an
   officially-supported platform.

The QRZ! Callsign/E-mail Registry now contains over 4100
callsign-to-E-mail-address listings and is growing daily.

We have a WWW page where you can input your E-mail address directly
into the QRZ! Callsign Database, where it will be published on both
CDROM and on the Internet. When you use this page, your E-mail address
is made instantly available to the online database.

Everyone is encouraged to check in and add their E-mail address to the
server. There are no charges or listing fees, and it's free to all
radio amateurs. The procedure takes only a second, and you are only
asked to supply your callsign and E-mail address.

   Register your E-mail address today!

We're pleased to announce that the online FCC database at qrz.com is
now updated nightly from the FCC with fresh information.

According to FCC rules, if you've just passed your first test, you can
begin operating as soon as your callsign shows up in the online
   database.

Please pass on any ideas, suggestions, comments, etc., to my E-mail
   address above.

A few members of our ham radio club were interested in helping out.
Since our turnover is usually 4 years or so (graduation is a horrible
thing), I thought it may be difficult for us to keep the list up to
date. I thought that by creating a local mailing list called
elmers@iastate.edu we could add or remove people as need be. There
would always be at least one person receiving mail on that list,
usually more! Even after I graduate, this list will be maintained
allowing ISU hams to easily help others.

Currently we have people with packet experience, some HF experience,
much repeater experience, in addition to a considerable background in
theory, as many here are electrical engineering or computer
engineering students. If a question can not be answered by the readers
of the list, there are many other local hams that could be prodded for
   the info.

Our local ham radio club has been especially interested in helping
local disabled hams (or hams to be) get on the air. But anyone local
who needed help would find a group at their door ready to work.

I'm heavily involved in Internet Protocol (IP) networking over packet,
as well as system administration of UNIX and UNIX-like operating
systems (with an emphasis on networking, E-mail, etc.). My current
concentration is on writing UNIX based tools (e.g. software for
logging, antenna design, propagation analysis) that can be shared
   throughout the ham community.

I also maintain the ve7tcp.ampr.org server. This system hosts a
variety of ham-radio related mailing lists as well as a comprehensive
World-Wide Web site and FTP archive, and was one of the first Internet
servers dedicated to ham radio. The system is also a hub site for the
   ampr.* newsgroups.

Information on the mailing lists offered can be had by sending an
   e-mail message to:

   listserv@ve7tcp.ampr.org

   containing (only) the word:

        INFO

in the message body. The WWW server is located at the URL:

   http://ve7tcp.ampr.org/

and the FTP server resides at:

   ftp://ve7tcp.ampr.org/

Direct login access to the system is available to anyone holding a
currently valid amateur radio license. The server provides a number of
useful tools for the radio amateur, including satellite tracking
software, CAD design software, SPICE, and other tools not generally
available to people running on Microsoft Windows or Apple based PC's.
(It runs 4.4BSD UNIX.) To obtain a login on the server, send a
photocopy of your current amateur license, along with a SAE and IRC
   to:

   Lyndon Nerenberg
   1804 Juniper Street
   Prince George, British Columbia

The American Radio Relay League is pleased to announce the startup of
ARRLWeb, your League's new HQ-based World-Wide Web site, at the URL

   http://www.arrl.org/

ARRLWeb will serve as an essential Internet resource for active hams,
carrying ARRL news, details on upcoming hamfests, conventions and
Amateur Radio examinations, the ARRL Publications catalog, information
of ARRL membership benefits and services, and more.

In inaugurating this new service, the League thanks Scott Ehrlich,
WY1Z, and the other Boston Amateur Radio Club volunteers who've worked
since December 1994 to keep ARRL up and coming on the Web via the ARRL
home page they installed and maintained at oak.oakland.edu. Their
volunteerism helped show us that upgrading our Internet connection to
a level that allowed on-campus Web service would be essential to
ARRL's mission of serving Amateur Radio.

Your comments, criticism and suggestions on how to make ARRLWeb bigger
and better are *essential* to its ongoing success, so please drop by
   and say hello!

My main area of expertise is low-power (under 1 kW) Latin American
Broadcasters, but I keep up-to-date on the current trends and events
affecting broadcasters world-wide (i.e., I was recently asked about a

Though intentional signal jamming isn't as much of a problem as it was

I have a collection of service information and literature dating back
to the 1920's. I will be happy to assist those needing copies of
out-of-copyright information for specific makes and models of
   receivers, transmitters, test equipment, etc..

The collection spans commercial, amateur, and military surplus gear of
all types. Unfortunately I have not yet taken the time to catalog all
this information (soon), but it is logically filed by make, model,
   etc.

If you need service information for a specific piece of equipment,
(and I have the information in my collection) I will research and copy
it for you. Cost will vary depending on the time required to find the
information and the amount of pages to be copied. I estimate 10 pages
or less at $1.00 US/page including US postage. I will quote on larger
manuals. Note that I am not in the business of selling the manuals
   themselves.

This is NOT my career or a business. Any requests must be prepaid or I
will ship COD at additional postage costs.

Maintainer of Linux for Hams CDROM

   What Is Linux for Hams?

Linux for Hams is a full-featured Linux system with special additions
for Amateur Radio. The system includes all of the sophisticated
software that one would expect on one of today's engineering
workstations, along with software for packet radio communication,
electronic design, printed-circuit manufacture, a database of FCC
rules and license exams, a code-practice program, and other Amateur
   Radio applications.

The general-purpose software includes software for connecting to the
Internet, compilers for the C and C++ languages, a full-featured
typesetting system, a symbolic mathematics program, CDROM authoring
tools, and many other programs. Unlike other Amateur Radio software
collections, Linux for Hams is an integrated system. The programs are
already compiled and configured to work together with the rest of the
   system.

Linux for Hams is being built by Bruce Perens AB6YM, with the help of
several volunteers. Of course, it builds on the work of the thousands
of volunteers who helped create Linux and the other programs it
   contains.

The system will be available for free if you download it using FTP. A
low-cost CD will be available, for about $30 US.

  Free CDROM Subscription for Volunteers

Most of the software in Linux for Hams is free software, contributed
by its author for anyone to use. I would like to compensate those
authors for their work. If you are the author of a significant piece
of software included in Linux for Hams, please E-mail to
Perens@Rahul.net. You may be be able to get a free CDROM subscription
   to Linux for Hams.

Bruce Perens AB6YM reserves the right to decide who gets free
subscriptions, what is included in a free subscription, and for how
   long those subscriptions last.

Senior Scientist, Radio Branch, Communications Division
SHAPE Technical Centre, PO Box 174, 2501CD The Hague,
The Netherlands CompuServe: 100276,1340

I am very lucky in that I earn my living in radio communications, so
my expertise is fairly broad (but not focused on amateur techniques
   only):

     * Modulation types - FSK, PSK, MSK
     * Error control - various types of ARQ and FEC systems
     * RF - Antennas, HF propagation
     * Networking - TCP/IP over HF
     * Frequency bands: VLF, LF, HF, VHF, UHF, SHF

This is a very brief synopsis of the areas that I have dealt with over
the years. I always enjoy discussing and researching a communications
problem so if you don't see it listed above drop me a line anyway,
especially if you happen to be in Europe.

I am the AMSAT coordinator for the Portland, Oregon area and I do a
lot of the "Elmering" in this area as well as steering people toward
   others.

This would be for satellites only, as I am not doing HF anymore.

I am currently set up for all of the digital and analog satellites,
all modes including AO-13 Mode S and weather sats.

I would be happy to assist people with getting started and beyond in
   all areas of satellite operations.

  Amateur Television Quarterly (ATVQ) Magazine

The magazine's E-mail address and mine are the same: ATVQ. There is
also a ham radio section for "manufacturers and dealers" on America
On-Line in which we list Amateur Television Quarterly, as expert and
manufacturer. That is where most of the Frequently-Asked Questions
   (FAQ's) come from.

Most FAQ's are answered in one of two books we published. ATV Secrets
for Aspiring ATV'ers is a non technical book, and Volume II is a
300-page technical manual with theory and projects for all equipment
necessary to operate an ATV station. Prices in US funds are $9.95 and
$24.95 plus postage ($3.10). Most of your inquires can be answered by
   either of these two books.

I am also compiling a set of W6ORG Notes, a regular column in ATVQ,
which answers many of the technical FAQ's on various equipment and
operations. This will be available for $9.95 also.

I can try to answer questions on here, and frequently do, but time is
   expensive and limited!
