Ordering your own site license copy

You can find this file anytime in C:\@API$(201)\ORDER.TXT

Now that you've seen what 1stReader has to offer your system and
your callers, now's the time to order a copy of your very own.

Site licenses for 1stReader are available for a one-time payment
of only $250 (US funds). We accept Visa, Mastercard and American
   Express credit cards.

But, before you order your own copy of 1stReader, we will need a
bit of information about your bulletin board system. Please
follow the steps outlined below to complete your order.

Before you begin, please create a temporary subdirectory named
C:\TEMP. We'll use this subdirectory to store the files we need
   to process your order.

    1. Your site licensed copy of 1stReader is tied specifically
to the QWK mail packets your system generates. You will
need to provide us with a copy of a QWK mail packet created
by your BBS. It doesn't have to be a very large QWK mail
packet...one conference containing 20-30 messages will do
nicely. And, if your BBS offers more than one QWK mail
system to your callers you will need to provide us with
a QWK mail packet from each "door" or system from your BBS.
Just change the extensions on the QWK mail packets to
".QWK", ".QW0", ".QW1", etc. Copy these QWK mail packets
        into C:\TEMP.

Note: Site licensed copies of 1stReader are tied to one
specific <QWK-ID> for your BBS. If your system
offers callers two different <QWK-ID>s then you will
require two site licenses for 1stReader.

Example: One QWK system on your BBS produces a
QWK mail packet named MYBBS.QWK. But,
another QWK system also on your BBS
produces a QWK mail packet named
                          OTHER.QWK. This situation would require
TWO different site licenses for 1stReader.

If you have multiple QWK mail systems on your BBS
but all of them produce QWK mail packets using the
*same* <QWK-ID>, then you only need one site license
for 1stReader. Most bulletin board systems fit this
                situation.

Note: 1stReader ties its identity based on the name of your
BBS and the name of the sysop as it appears in the
CONTROL.DAT file inside the QWK mail packet. This
means that once we create your site licensed copy of
1stReader you cannot change the name of your BBS or
the name of the sysop. If you do, the reader will
no longer fully read a QWK mail packet.

Make sure that the name of your BBS and the sysop is
consistent across all nodes for your system.

If, in the future, you wish to make a change to
either the name of your BBS, the name of the <QWK-ID>
for your system, or the name of the sysop, we can
provide you with a modified 1ST.EXE for $25.00.

    2. 1stReader uses scripts to log into your BBS and handle all
mail tasks automatically. Sparkware furnishes scripts
written for the most popular bulletin board software in use
today. Copy the script used to access your BBS into C:\TEMP.
You will find the scripts you need in C:\@API$(201)\SCRIPTS.

If your system offers callers more than one QWK mail system
then you need to decide which QWK mail system should be used
by your callers. You can change this at any time, but you
do need to designate one as your prime system now by deciding
on the script to access your system.

For example, if you operate a BBS based on PCBoard software,
you need to decide if one of these scripts should be used as
        your prime system:

                Script QWK mail system

                PCBOARD.SCR PCBoard's internal QWK command
                QMAIL4.SCR Sparkware's Qmail Door
                CAMMAIL.SCR Cam Debuck's CamMail Door
                ROSEMAIL.SCR Rosemail Door
                MARKMAIL.SCR Markmail Door
                KMAIL.SCR Kmail Door

Most BBS software provide only one QWK mail system, so your
choice of script will be easy. However, PCBoard is a good
example of one BBS software system that provides multiple
access methods. Pick one and copy the script file into the
        C:\TEMP subdirectory.

Note: It is your responsibility to ensure that the script
you choose works correctly with your BBS. Sparkware
cannot perform repeated tests to confirm script
                operations.

You can test your scripts using the standard release
edition of 1stReader. You can download the file
1ST-200.ZIP from our Internet web site at
"http://sparkware.com". Select the "Grab the files
here" button to download the file. Then, after
installing 1stReader in your copy, make multiple runs
                with your default script.

See the program "SCRIPT.EXE", included with this
site licensed copy, to find out how to create and
edit a script file using 1stReader's script language.

Sparkware offers script writing services for your
BBS for $100.00. We will custom tailor a script to
                fit your system needs.

    3. We also need a copies of your BBS "welcome" screen, system
news, and "goodbye" files displayed to your callers. Also,
you might like to create a file named $$CALL.ANS that is
displayed to the user when they call your BBS. This file
is an "ANSI" graphic file. Copy all of these files into
        C:\TEMP.

    4. 1stReader can also include any bulletins you wish your
callers to view. Copy any bulletins you wish to include in
your site licensed copy into C:\TEMP, naming them BLT-0.n,
where "n" is the number of the bulletin on your BBS.

    5. Now you must create copies of the 1stReader "opening screen"
that your callers will see. We have included two copies of
the opening screen for you to edit using "THEDRAW". If you
do not have a copy of THEDRAW you can download a copy from
        our web site.

Using THEDRAW, edit the files COLOR.BIN and MONO.BIN to
include any logo or advertising in the top half of the
screen. Do not use any more space than is allocated. Then,
save both files as "BIN" files in THEDRAW and copy them into
        C:\TEMP.

Sparkware can create simple logos for your system, free of
        charge, if needed.

    6. Finally, we need the basic information about you and your
BBS. Answer the questions below and copy this document into
        the C:\TEMP subdirectory.

        [START]

                     Your name:

                         State:
                      Zip code:
                   Voice phone:

                   Name of BBS:
             BBS software used:
            Primary BBS number:
          Secondary BBS number:
        Internet email address:

If you wish to order by credit card, please complete the
        following information:

              Credit card type:
                   Card number:
               Expiration date:

        [DONE]

    7. You ordering information is now complete. Use the command

                      PKZIP <QWK-ID>.ZIP C:\TEMP\*.*

to create your order information file. <QWK-ID> is the name
of the mail packets your bulletin board system creates (the
name of the packet WITHOUT the .QWK extension).

You can send your <QWK-ID>.ZIP file to us in one of three
        different methods:

                a) Send the file via Internet email. This option
is not recommended unless you encrypt the file
and provide us with the password by some other
method (telephone, a call to our BBS, etc.)

                    Our email address is "help@sparkware.com".

                b) Call our customer support BBS at (615) 230-8822
and attach the file to a private message. Use
the "C" command to enter a comment to the sysop
and when you are finished entering the message,
use the "SA" command to save the message with an
attached file. Upload <QWK-ID>.ZIP to us at this
                    point.

                c) Use conventional postal mail to send your order
to us with <QWK-ID>.ZIP copied onto a 1.44 meg
floppy diskette. This is the only method
acceptable for orders using check or money
                    orders.

                    Our post office address is:

                                Sparkware
                                Post Office Box 386
                                Hendersonville, TN 37077-0386
                                USA

Your completed order will be shipped to you.

We hope you see the potential 1stReader has to increase the
traffic coming into your bulletin board system. And in these
times, getting callers is THE issue faced by sysops. When
a customer signs up with an Internet provider they are given
all of the tools needed to connect with the Internet.

When your customers sign up with you...should you give them
        something too? Make it 1stReader!
