Course Name: Morgantown Golf & Country Club, Southern Course
  Yardage: 7014
  Par: 72
  Designer: Eric M. Hammer
  Opened: 1988

The Southern (Red) course of the Morgantown G&CC is part of a new
development in northern Michigan named for it's financier, Sempronius
Morgan. It is located in old mining and lumbering country not far from
Lake Michigan. The complex includes two championship golf courses
(North and South), a twelve-court tennis club, a swimming club with
indoor and outdoor pools, and a health spa.
The Red course is rather different from it's companion. First of all, and
most obviously, it is some 300 yards longer. Yet the Red course actually
plays about a stroke easier than it's shorter, tighter brother.
The front nine is the easiest, with fairly open holes along the Witiwassee
River. While the water can come into play, the fairways of these holes are
on the broad side, and most of the rough is kept shorter than that of the
Blue course. The back nine is tougher, however, with tighter fairways and
the infamous "Mile of Misery" closing out the course. Holes 16, 17, and 18
are kept up to the toughest championship standards, with the last two being
particularly tough holes, as is fitting for the closing two holes of a
championship. Greens on both the front and back nine are slightly easier
than on the Blue course, but are still tougher than average.

Since 1990, Morgantown has hosted the PGA tour's Coke Classic Classic,
played in the late summer. The Red course is the venue of the final two
 rounds of the tournament.

The winners so far have been:

  1990: Wayne Levy, 71-69-68-68 = 276 (-12)
  1991: Payne Stewart, 69-72-70-67 = 278 (-10)
  1992: Nick Price, 69-69-68-66 = 272 (-16)
  1993: Jim McGovern, 70-71-67-68 = 276 (-12)
