TREKNET - A Star Trek oriented Network
by Peter Tan (80:6000/1)

    What is TrekNet?

Glad that you asked. TrekNet is a network formed for the sole
purpose of bringing together fans of Star Trek.

Star Trek has gained a large following since its conception
in the 1960's, a brainchild of the late Gene Roddenberry. The
original Star Trek series (known as TOS - The Original Series)
went only as far as 3 seasons. However, the TV networks at the
time could not have known how popular it will be.

25 years after the original Star Trek Series, Paramount made
6 Star Trek movies. These helped to recruit new fans and expose
more people, the younger generation, to the wonders of Star Trek.

Star Trek has spawned numerous fan clubs around the world.
There are even a couple of "official fan clubs", backed by
Paramount. Why do people join all these fan clubs? Well, suffice
to say that the typical Joe Blow just does not understand what
Star Trek is all about. We join these clubs to meet people with
the same level of enthusiasm and interest as we do in Star Trek.

How does TrekNet fit into all these? Simple. TrekNet aims to
link as many Fan Clubs together as possible. Even if none exist
in your area, you will find people like you in TrekNet - where
they know what you are talking about when you mention the words
"Star Trek". If you know someone belonging to a local Star Trek
Club, invite him or her to logon and join in the fun in TrekNet!
