                          Ŀ
                            Joining PCGnet:

Brief introduction:

PCGnet is not a brand new network. We are a group of individuals that
have been telecommunicating for quite a few years now. Formerly known as
ADEnet (The Alacrity Design and Engineering Network), PCGnet reorganized
its network from the ground up, incorporating new nodes and focusing
evenly on both CAD and Graphics related topics, including, but not
limited to the following topics: Autodesk products, Design, Drafting,
Engineering, 2d & 3d Modeling, Multimedia Systems, Raster Imaging,
Raytracing, Computer Art, 3d Rendering and Animation.

Who do I contact - PCGnet Hubs:

Prospective nodes should contact the nearest PCGnet Hub as outlined in
the APPLY.TXT file, included within this archive.

Transferring mail- the first step:

The physical link (echoing mail and file distribution) with PCGnet will
require a node to be running a front-end mailer program. A listing of
front-end mailers as well as additional information is available in this
  packet called, MAILERS.TXT.

Although PCGnet strongly prefers all nodes to utilize a front-end mailer
it is not a requirement. Those interested in a .QWK based echomail
  exchange should contact;

  Adam Shiffman (PCGnet UNEC)
  The Graphics Alternative
  510-524-2780
  El Cerrito, CA

Nodes using .QWK technology will loose many important features, which
only a front-end mailer offers. No administrative position may be held
in PCGnet, by a node which is ONLY .QWK based.

If you are unfamiliar with front-end mailers, it is highly recommended
that you read ALL the information contained in this packet related to
front-end mailers, as well as other sources. It is also strongly
suggested that a sincere effort is made reading the necessary
documentation on installing a front-end mailer for your specific BBS
software. Setting up a front-end mailer can be a time consuming process,
however with a little effort, a few specific information files to read up
on, as well as some help from one of our nodes, the benefits are awesome.

Existing PCGnet nodes will be more than happy to provide you with
specific information related to your BBS software, such as; Maximus,
PCBoard, Wildcat, Remote Access, RBBS-PC, RoboBoard and information on
mailers such as FrontDoor and Binkley.

Accessing PCGnet services:

PCGnet's primary goal is acquiring relatively active Bulletin Board
Systems throughout the world, dealing with our theme at this point in
time. Existing active users groups (related to our networks theme) are
strongly encouraged to consider setting up a BBS of their own, if one is
not available. Every possible effort will be made to assist you with
this process. We are extremely interested in active users groups, which
  are not currently telecommunicating.

Presently PCGnet would prefer new nodes to have the means of generating
a message base. Existing users groups HAVE that potential, simply
because they have established a users-base already. PCGnet aims to build
a strong, active, professional message base instead of acquiring numerous
nodes with little or no message activity..

Exiting BBS's lacking an established message base (related to our theme)
which are simply wishing to echo PCGnet(s) message bases as an additional
feature for their end-users will not always be accepted for membership.

Other related CAD/Graphics Networks administrators:

A node currently requesting access to PCGnet cannot be ADMINISTRATIVELY
involved with another network, such as but not inclusive of, Network
  Statistician, Co-Administrator, Conference Coordinator, Network
Marketing, Network Treasure, and so forth, UNLESS approved by PCGnets
  administrators collectively.

In Conclusion

If you are interested in applying for PCGnet membership, please continue
by following the guidelines as described in the file APPLY.TXT. Please
note that we do our very best to respond to all applications in a timely
and professional manner, if however, you have difficulty contacting your
nearest PCGnet Host system or circumstances arise preventing a response
to your application in a timely manner, please try contacting the PCGnet
Network Coordinator so that your membership information may be duly
  forwarded.

Thank you for your interest in The Professional CAD and Graphics Network,
we hope to hear from you soon!
