ARTISOFT ANNOUNCES SCALABLE BACKUP SYSTEMS FOR LANTASTIC(R)
LOCAL AREA NETWORKS

Backup Solutions Being Jointly Developed With Mountain
Network Solutions

(TUCSON, AZ -- September 28, 1993) --Artisoft, Inc.
announced today an agreement with Mountain Network
Solutions, Inc. to jointly develop a comprehensive backup
and recovery system for LANtastic Local Area Networks. The
first in the ArtiSave(TM) Backup software series will be
available this fall as a software-only solution compatible
with industry standard SCSI tape backup drives for $339. A
software/hardware bundle with the Mountain Network
Solutions' SideCar II(TM) parallel port tape backup drive
will also be available this Fall at $699. Additional
packages will be available in early calendar year 1994.
"We are pleased to be working on this new series with
one of the leaders in tape backup subsystems," commented
Artisoft's Vice President of Sales & Marketing Dave Hallmen.
"The software will offer our customers an excellent option
for backing up their mission-critical data and will add to
Artisoft's total solution approach to a customer's
networking needs."
Mountain President, Dr. William E. Kunz, added "With
the broad range of features that we are building into
ArtiSave, LANtastic users no longer have to worry about the
security of the data on their mixed platform peer-to-peer
networks. Backup and recovery will be fool-proof."

ArtiSave Backup Software Features
For DOS and Windows(TM) users, the ArtiSave Backup
software can be run directly on any server to backup the
drive and will also provide a backup solution to any server
across the network. This new software offers selective
(file-by-file) and automatic backup modes. Features include
automatic installation, easy-to-use menus, on-line context
sensitive help screens, automatic scheduling of backup
events, and simultaneous backup of the server while users
are on the network.
Windows users can save valuable administration time
with the ArtiSave software's powerful Librarian feature that
provides easy-to-use data management features which allow
automatic tracking of archived files for easy location and
restoration. Users can catalog every backup and view all
instances of a file, enabling users to choose which version
of the file they wish to restore.

Selective Backup
The ArtiSave Backup software supports large directory
structures and defragments files that are backed up file-by-
file, allowing individual files to be quickly restored. The
selective backup features allow rapid tagging of disks,
subdirectories and files with a single click. The ArtiSave
Backup software also provides the ability to backup files
that have been modified since the last complete backup,
files between a specified date range or by archive bit.

Automatic Backup
The ArtiSave Backup software can automatically perform
an image or selected file backup. The Windows software
includes an integrated job scheduler feature which allows
users to schedule unattended backups to run at specific
times, while the DOS version takes advantage of DOS batch
file capabilities.
Users with an 80386-based computer can take advantage
of the Windows 386 enhanced mode background operation. This
will allow them to begin other tasks while the
backup/restore process runs concurrently in the background.

Backup Sessions
This new software will recognize when a file is in use
and will log such files into a tape log which can be used as
the basis for a later backup. Users can set up a backup
session with error-level checking and error reporting and
will be able to check the status of the backup through a
supervisor feature that displays how many files are left,
what percentage of the jobs are remaining and the size of
the backup. Users can also access a log file that records
any files that were skipped during the backup and indicates
why they were skipped. This log file can be sent to a
printer or other output device.

Software-Only Versions
The ArtiSave Backup software will be available as a
software-only solution that supports industry standard SCSI
interface tape backup drives. This version is scheduled to
begin shipping in November 1993 and will be priced at $339.
A version that will support Mountain's TD 250 and
Colorado Memory System's Jumbo 250 backup drives is
scheduled to be available early in calendar year 1994. The
ArtiSave Backup software for these drives will be priced at
$249.

Hardware Bundle
The ArtiSave Backup software will be bundled with
Mountain's SideCarII 305Mb portable backup drive. The
SideCarII connects directly to the PC's parallel port with
no additional interface card required. The ArtiSave Rescue
feature will constantly monitor the drive volumes and the
tape cartridges that are used to backup the drive.
In the event of data loss, the combination of the
ArtiSave Backup software and the Mountain SideCarII parallel
port tape drive provides a unique remote disaster recovery
capability. An administrator has the ability to take the
portable SideCarII drive to the disabled PC and invoke the
Rescue command to quickly and completely restore the data.
This bundle is scheduled to begin shipping in November 1993
and will be priced at $699.
