                          RADON TESTING

Key Words: Test kits; Charcoal liquid scintillation; Alpha
               track; radon; lung cancer; loss-prevention;
               public health and safety.

The National Safety Council feels that testing for the presence
of radon is the right choice for improved safety and health. The
Council is urging its members and their employees (and the
general public) to test their residences. Corporations with
"no-smoking" policies in particular are urged to fully address
the health of their employees by recognizing that exposure to
radon decay products is a significant contibuting cause of lung
cancer. Employers who provide their workers health care benefits
can help with prevention of this devastating disease with a
simple test kit. Loss prevention now is far less costly than
illness tomorrow. To help make radon testing easy, economical,
and reliable for all, the National Safety Council is offering a
unique package of materials for employers to acquire for
distribution to the workforce. The packaged materials include an
orientation video called "A Homeowners Guide"; a choice of three
types of radon detection kits; a free explanatory pamplet; and a
free radon fact sheet. For more information in California, call
Mr. Jack Riley at 714-498-0439.
