FILEMAKER PLUS to OYC -- Conversion Utility

Filemaker Plus is a Macintosh database program. This conversion
utility will convert files created with Filemaker Plus on a Mac
so they can be used with OYC on an IBM compatible computer.

Please note that there are two versions of Filemaker: Filemaker
Plus and Filemaker Pro. They are not compatible with reach other.
This conversion utility has only been tested with Filemaker Plus.

ON THE MACINTOSH

Step one is to get the files into a format that can be converted-
-Filemaker files can not be directly converted. Load the file you
want to convert. Then use the "Output To..." feature on the FILES
MENU.

You'll first need to enter a name for the new file. Generally I
suggest using a filename that meets the IBM filename standards
(no more than 8 characters, with a three character filename
extension), because this file will be copied to an IBM compatible
computer. A filename such as "OUTPUT.DAT" works well.

Next click on the "SYLK File" option and then double click on
"Move All."

Next click on "Exclude" to exclude the calculation fields. The
new file will then be created.

Use the Apple File Exchange program to copy the new file to an
IBM formatted disk.

ON THE IBM COMPATIBLE

Copy the file created on the Mac to a directory on your IBM
compatible. The go to the directory containing the FILEMAKR.EXE
utility and type FILEMAKR and push ENTER. (Both files can be in
the same directory).

You'll first be prompted to enter the drive, path, and name of
the file (including the filename extension) to be converted.
Enter this information. If the file to be converted is in the
same directory as the FILEMAKR.EXE file, then you only need to
enter the name of the file and its extension.

Next you'll be asked whether you want to erase the existing
CONVERT.DAT file. All converted information is saved in an OYC
catalog file called CONVERT. If you are converting several files
you need to either rename or copy the CONVERT.DAT catalog file
after each conversion. This prompt gives you an opportunity to
exit from the conversion process, if you have not yet renamed or
copied the CONVERT.DAT file that was created previously.
Push "Y" if it is okay to replace the existing CONVERT catalog
file.

The conversion will now be run and is fully automatic. When it is
complete you will be returned to the DOS prompt. At this time you
should run OYC and look at the CONVERT catalog to be sure the
conversion had not problems. If the file is good, use either the
"Copy Entries" feature to add the CONVERT catalog to an existing
catalog, or the "Rename Catalog" feature to give it a new name.
