Propagation Forecast Bulletin 36 ARLP036

Solar flux is up slightly from last week, and with the A index in
the single digits, disturbances remain quite low. The flux may rise
to around 90 in the next few days, and then spend half of September
dropping around 20 points.

Soon we will be moving into Fall propagation modes, which should
show some improvement in worldwide coverage at higher frequencies.
The maximum usable frequency will be limited though by the low
activity as we slide toward the solar minimum.

Sharp eyed K8MLV noted that on August 9 WWV reported a solar flux of
75, while this bulletin reported 73.5 for the same date. Our
Canadian source for solar data transposed some digits, and the
correct value was 75.3.

The outlook for this weekend's All Asia DX Contest is fairly good,
with solar flux a little higher than it has been in awhile, and no
disturbances expected.

Sunspot Numbers from August 25 through 31 were 15, 18, 14, 22, 24,
45 and 59, with a mean of 28.1. 10.7 cm flux was 71, 72, 71, 71,
77.6, 83.1 and 82.3, with a mean of 75.4.

The path for this week is from Dallas, Texas to Japan.

80 meters should be open from 0900z to 1200z, and 40 meters from
0830z to 1300z. 30 meters should be good around 0730z and again
from 1200z to 1400z. Check 20 meters around 0530z and again around
1330z. 17 meters looks good from 2200z to 0200z. On most days 15
meters should open around 2230z to 0000z. 12 and 10 meters do not
look promising at this time.
