MAIL ORDER/SHAREWARE AUTHORS DATA BASE PROGRAM

I actually designed this program for my own use, however, as it turned
out to be so useful for me, I concluded it would also make a very
good public domain program for anyone in the mail order business or
other Shareware authors who need to keep track of customers,
registrations, sales, expenses and profits, ect.

My own computer setup is as follows:

IBM XT compatible with two printer ports (LPT1 & LPT2). I have a dot
matrix printer connected to LPT2 which is dedicated to printing mailing
labels. LPT1 is connected to another dot matrix printer used for
writing letters, ect. (I have many other goodies connected but they
are of no consequence to this program).

The program contains the following features:

    * Professionally designed data entry screens. * Find any piece of
information instantly. * Print Mailing Labels sorted on any field.
    * Print only user specified mailing labels. * Print source statistics
to determine which ads or sources give the most return for the money.
(automatically calculates and prints the costs on user specified
printouts). * Print mailing labels as information is entered (if
desired). * Print user configured return address labels. * Print
sorted and/or user specified customer lists. * Maintain Memos (Notes)
on customer files or expense information. * Keep track of all
expenses. * Run a printout of expenses sorted and/or user specified
with automatic totals calculations. Instantly call up a screen which
automatically calculates EXPENSES, GROSS INCOME and PROFITS. Switch
ports from LPT1 to LPT2 and back.

The main program files consist of the following:

MRECORDS EXE - Primary program file
EXPENSES EXE - Expenses program file
CMEMO EXE - Customer memo program file
EMEMO EXE - Expenses memo program file
CODES DAT - Data file for user specified codes and Printer port
                   default. (LPT1 or LPT2)
RETURN DAT - Data file for user specified return address labels
CAT DAT - Data files for user specified expense categories
QSORT EXE - Data sort program

In addition, after the program is run, the following data files will
    be created:

    MRECORDS DAT
    MRECORDS MAP
    MRECORDS ISI
    EXPENSES DAT
    EXPENSES MAP
    EXPENSES ISI
    CMEMOS DAT
    CMEMOS MAP
    CMEMOS ISI
    EMEMOS DAT
    EMEMOS MAP
    EMEMOS ISI

You may toggle Auto-Print <O>n or <O>ff. This is the feature that

also a provision to check label alignment and to indicate how many
    labels have been printed.

If you press R for <R>eturn Lables, you may print as many return
address labels as you like. Information on how to set up your own
return address labels is provided later in these instructions.

If you press C for <C>hange Ports, you may temporarily change from the
default printer port (LPT) to another port (Either LPT1 or LPT2). It
should be noted however, this is a TEMPORARY change only!

Information on how to make a permanent change to the LPT default
setting is described latter in these instructions.

The indication for a temporary change is illustrated on the following

    EASY CHECK REGISTER:

Nothing like re-inventing the wheel! When some of my computer illiterate
friends ask me "What's a computer good for besides balancing your
checkbook?" I just say "That's about it!" Anyway, I know there's a lot of
checkbook programs out there, but I wanted something easy to operate, with
nice screens, automatically calculate everything and give me instant
