 Desktop Stop!

 Version 1.00
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Public Domain Software Release From [x] CheckBox Software

 By Mike Mezaros

 Released 8/25/91

 o INVENTORY
   ---------

 This archive should've included:

 DESKSTOP.EXE - The actual program.
 DESKSTOP.TXT - This text file.

 o PURPOSE
   -------

Double-clicking on the System Menu ("Control Box") in Norton Desktop for
Windows 1.0 will immediately exit you from Windows without a "second
chance" warning. This, of course, can lead to accidents.

 Thus, Desktop Stop!

Desktop Stop! provides a non-intrusive way to rid yourself of this
problem. With Desktop Stop! installed, you will now get that second
chance. Before letting you exit Windows, Desktop Stop! will first
pop-up a dialog box asking if you're SURE you want to exit.

DeskStop Stop! has no annoying icon, so it stays out of your way until
you actually need it. Desktop Stop! will show up in the task list, but
removing Desktop Stop! from the task list will not cause Windows to
exit. Basically: it's simple, it's fast, and it's foolproof.

A good 90% of the credit for this program should go to Jim Ferguson.
It was his idea -- I don't even use Norton Desktop (yet...).

 o INSTALLATION
   ------------

Simply drop DESKSTOP.EXE into your AutoStart folder, or add DESKSTOP.EXE
to the Run= line of your WIN.INI file using any text editor.

 o VISUAL BASIC
   ------------

This program is written in Microsoft Visual Basic. Therefore, it can
only be used in Windows' Standard or Enhanced modes, and requires the
royalty-free Visual Basic runtime DLL. This DLL is widely available,
and free... It is available on CompuServe in the Microsoft Languages
Forum (GO MSLANG) in library #6, and on GEnie in the IBM PC RoundTable
 (IBMPC), as VBRUN.ZIP.

Although Desktop Stop! is a very small program, it does take up a bit of
your memory and a small amount of system resources due to the Visual
Basic runtime. Bear in mind, however, that the Visual Basic runtime,
since it is a DLL, is only loaded once... It's resources are shared
among all Visual Basic applications. If nothing else, Desktop Stop!
should give you a reason to try out all of the fantastic Visual Basic
applications out there (including, hopefully, some of my own).

o Z-NET PC INTERNATIONAL ONLINE MAGAZINE
   --------------------------------------

This program is public domain. There is no registration fee. But if you
want to show your appreciation, here's a great way to do so...

If you're interested in keeping up with the latest news in the PC world,
be sure to check out Z-Net PC. Z-Net PC is an online magazine - in
other words, you download it, and read it in your favorite word
processor or text editor, etc. It is released bi-weekly, and at
absolutely no cost to you (although normal connect charges apply if you
download it from an online service). Our Windows coverage -- like
 everything else -- is excellent.

The issues are available on CompuServe in the IBM Applications Forum (GO
IBMAPP), and GEnie in the IBM PC RoundTable (IBMPC).

Just search on "ZNET" to find the latest issue.

 o LEGAL DISCLAIMERS
   -----------------

Even if this program forces your computer to explode, which causes your
house to burn down, which destroys all of your valuables, starts a
forest fire, which makes its way to the local harbor, then spreads to an
oil tanker, and eventually causes a major environmental disaster, I am
NOT responsible. I am not responsible for ANYTHING that might happen to
you or your computer or anyone or anything because of this little
program. Whether it be a damaged diskette or a hole in the ozone layer.
Desktop Stop! has been tested thoroughly, but I don't offer any
guarantees or warranties of any kind (neither express nor implied). Use
 it at your own risk!

 o >>WARNING<<
   -----------

At some unknown point in time, the entire universe, including this
program, will collapse into itself. A new universe will then develop,
and it cannot be guaranteed that this program will exist in that new
 universe.
