 1-2-3 RELEASE 3.0 WITH IILIM386 VERSION 4.04

This combination is incompatible. Although ILIM386.SYS version 4.04
was designed to conform with software using the Virtual Control Program
Interface (VCPI) specification, a problem with the ILIM VCPI
implementation causes Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3 to lock up with the
message: "DOS 123 ERROR: Protected mode requires VCPI within virtual
     8086".

You must remove ILIM386 version 4.04 for 1-2-3 to run. Use ILIM386
version 4.07 instead. 1-2-3 Release 3.0 will use all Inboard 386 and
     Above Board extended memory.

 1-2-3 RELEASE 3.0 WITH IILIM386 VERSION 4.07

Use EXT=0 on ILIM386.SYS command line in CONFIG.SYS to allow 1-2-3 to
access all available memory. To leave memory for iCACHE, set EXT= to
     iCACHE size.

 LOTUS 1-2-3 AND MATH COPROCESSORS

1-2-3 can indicate a math coprocessor is present after it has been
removed. This happens because IBM's CMOS Static RAM still registers
the setup from when the coprocessor was present. Running IBM
diagnostics with the new Setup program can change this. If you don't
have the new Setup, you can temporarily (for about 1/2 hour) disconnect
the battery to allow the Static RAM to lose its contents and then run
     Setup.

 LOTUS 1-2-3 MEMORY MANAGEMENT

This section explains how to structure files for minimum memory use and
how to regain memory. This information comes from the Memory
Management appendix in Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3.0 documentation.

The minimum memory requirement for release 3.0 is 640K bytes
conventional, 384K bytes extended. The suggested memory amounts are
640K bytes conventional, 1M byte extended, and additional as expanded.
Make sure the extended memory isn't been allocated to other programs
like disk caches. Check CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT if unsure.
Because most DOS applications use expanded, not extended, memory,
configure as much expanded as needed for these applications.

When configured for both extended and expanded memory, the 1-2-3
program is stored in extended and data is stored in expanded. When
expanded is full, 1-2-3 places any additional data in extended. If you
have an 80386-based computers with an expanded memory emulation
program, such as ILIM386 or QEMM386, you should convert as much
extended memory as possible to expanded. 1-2-3 can access only the
memory that the emulation program converts to expanded. 1-2-3 won't be
able to use any extended memory after the emulation program has loaded.
You usually set the amount of memory to be converted with a statement
     in your CONFIG.SYS file.

NOTE: 1-2-3 works with only EMS Emulators that support the Virtual
Control Program Interface (VCPI). Among those that support VCPI are
386 MAX version 4.07 or later, Quarterdeck Expanded Memory Manager
(QEMM) version 4.2 or later, and Compaq Expanded Memory Manager (CEMM).

 SET DOS16M=10

This command creates a DOS environment variable. It is used by the
Rational DOS Extender to allow a user to adjust the protected mode
switching method as needed for compatibility with some clone ROM/BIOS.
This is primarily an issue with Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3 at this time
since it makes use of the Rational DOS Extender.

SPEED CHANGES WITH 1-2-3 VERSION 2.01

If you are running 1-2-3 version 2.01 from a key disk, you must have
the computer in Speed 1 or Speed 3 to load the program. After the
program loads, you can switch to Speed 4. You must install 1-2-3 on
the hard disk in Speed 1 or Speed 3. After 1-2-3 is on the hard disk,
it will both load and run in Speed 4.

 LOTUS METRO

Lotus Metro uses Left Shift/Alt as its hot-key sequence. When Metro is
loaded, SPEED.SYS will not work to change speeds on the Inboard 386.
Use SPEED.COM to change speeds with Metro. Speed.sys must still be
loaded for the warm boot function.
