EGA GENERAL NOTES

Intel has tested Inboard 386 with several EGA boards, and many EGA boards
(generally older ones) cause the computer to beep when powering up.

BOARDS THAT CAUSE THE COMPUTER TO BEEP
Boards such as IBM EGA, QUAD EGA+, and VEGA EGA may cause the computer to
power up in 40-column mode and to sound one long and three short beeps.
The EGA BIOS tests running at 16 MHz causes this to happen, and it does
not indicate a problem with either the EGA or the computer. You can
return the computer to 80-column mode and reset the EGA by adding the
Inboard 386's INBRDAT.SYS command with the EGASIZE=x parameter to your
  CONFIG.SYS file.

With Inboard 386 software versions 1.0 and 1.1, you can return the
computer to 80-column mode and reset the EGA by adding the following
  commands to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
EGA x (where x = number of in K bytes of memory on MODE 80 of the EGA
  board: 64, 128, or 256)

The screen will display 40-column mode until these commands are executed.
Both the MODE.COM and EGA.EXE programs must be either in the root
directory or in a directory included in a PATH command in the
  AUTOEXEC.BAT.

BOARDS THAT DON'T CAUSE THE COMPUTER TO BEEP

The following boards do not cause the computer to beep:
   AST EGA
   ATI EGA Wonder board
   Everex autoswitch
   Paradise autoswitch

AST RAMPAGE/EGA

Customers report this video board is compatible with the Inboard 386 if
the EGA board has an upgraded ROM chip. If you orient the board so the
chips face you and the metal mounting bracket is to the right, you'll find
the chip in the upper right part of the board. A white sticker on the
face of the chip lists one of two part numbers: "AST 1986 107000-391C" is
the non-upgraded ROM, and "AST 867000-391D" is the upgraded ROM.

AT&T TARGA

There are several versions of this board. Only the versions later than
November 1986 are compatible with the Inboard 386. To determine which
board you have, look for a small sticker with the blue AT&T logo and blue
Globe located near a large sticker with a switch-setting chart. Only the
latest versions have the small sticker. AT&T can upgrade earlier versions
of the board for about $70.

ATI EGA WONDER BOARD

The Inboard 386 discontinued IEMM386 software doesn't work with this board
when it's in Autoswitch mode. The ILIM386 software available on the Intel
  BBS should work fine.

If you are still using the IEMM386 driver, either upgrade to ILIM386 or
disable the Autoswitch feature when using IEMM386.

COMPAQ VIDEO GRAPHICS CONTROLLER

This board is compatible with the Inboard 386. However, when the COMPAQ
VGC board is used in a computer with a Microsoft serial mouse or Microsoft
bus mouse, problems can result from the interaction between the video BIOS
and the mouse driver. The problems vary with software configuration and
computer type, but they may include data loss or corruption on the hard
  disk or floppy disk.

This is not a problem with the Inboard 386. COMPAQ knows about the
problem and has software (called INT10VGA.SYS) to fix it. Call COMPAQ to
  get INT10VGA.SYS.

HERCULES COLOR BOARD

Customers report that this board is probably compatible with Inboard 386,
but one report indicates a 6-MHz IBM PC AT locked up with the Hercules
Color board and Inboard 386 installed.

Intel has not tested this combination.

HERCULES GRAPHICS PLUS

Intel tested this board with Inboard 386, and they are compatible.

IBM PROFESSIONAL GRAPHICS ADAPTER (PGA)

Intel has verified that the Inboard 386 is incompatible with this graphics
  board.

IBM VGA

Customers report the computer sounds one long and three short beeps at
power-up with the Inboard 386 installed, but the VGA board is compatible
and works fine. The beeps are usually caused by video BIOS tests running
at 16 MHz; they don't indicate a problem with either the VGA or the
  computer.

PARADISE AUTOSWITCH

The Inboard 386 discontinued IEMM386 software doesn't work with this board
  when it's in Autoswitch mode.

Possible solutions are to disable the Autoswitch feature when using
IEMM386 or remove IEMM386 and use another memory manager, (IEMM386 was
replaced by ILIM386, which is available on the Intel BBS).

PARADISE VGA

Customers report that this video board is compatible with the Inboard 386.

Tech Note: This board has a larger ROM BIOS area than most VGAs, it uses
addresses C000-CBFF, which may be an issue when setting up expanded
  memory.

QUADRAM QUADHPG (HIGH PERFORMANCE GRAPHICS)

This board is compatible with Inboard 386. This board uses the Intel
82786 graphics coprocessor and has a piggyback board that allows the
QUADHPG board to emulate EGA. You cannot use EGACACHE with this board.

SIGMA MAXIMIZER AT

One customer reported that Inboard 386 computers won't warm boot with this
board or recognize its extended memory.

TALL TREE JLASER

The Inboard 386's IEMM386 software is incompatible with the JLAZER board.
ILIM386 software should work, so if you are still using IEMM386, upgrade
  to ILIM386.

VERTICOM H-256 GRAPHICS CONTROLLER

Customers report that this board emulates an IBM PGA, a board with which
the Inboard 386 is incompatible. However, a dealer has reported testing
these high resolution graphics controller boards, and the Inboard 386
worked fine. Intel has not confirmed the dealer's findings.

VEGA VIDEO 7 DELUXE

The Inboard 386 IEMM386 software doesn't work with this board when it's in
Autoswitch mode. ILIM386 software should work, so if you still use
IEMM386, either upgrade to ILIM386 or disable the Autoswitch feature when
using IEMM386. You could also remove IEMM386 and use another board (such
as an Above Board with EMM) for expanded memory.

The Video 7 board uses addresses A000-BFFF and C000-C3FF and IRQ 2.

VEGA VIDEO 7 FASTWRITE VGA

One user reports compatibility between this board and Inboard 386 after
turning Switch 4 on the Video 7 board to "on". Video 7 suggested this,
though the manual states this switch does nothing and must remain off.

ZENITH Z-449

This board won't work with the Inboard's EGACACHE parameter. This board
has an autoswitch feature. If autoswitch is on, warm boot will not work.
Therefore, turn the Z-449 board's autoswitch off.
