GENERAL NOTES ON SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY

The Inboard 386 was designed and tested in IBM ATs (6 and 8MHz). The
InBoard 386 will not work in any system that deviates very far from the
IBM standards. Intel has not tested "compatible" BIOSs in IBM ATs.

ACER 900

Customers report the Acer 900 to be compatible with the Inboard 386 IF the
computer uses BIOS version 2.07A. The computer doesn't work correctly
with BIOS versions 2.01B or 3.01B.

ALR DART

Customers have reported the Dart and the Inboard 386 are compatible after
  doing the following:

Setting the computer's system board switches for 512K bytes
conventional memory, 512K bytes extended memory (the other choice
is 640K bytes conventional, 384K bytes extended)
Using the ILIM SWAP parameter to get 640K bytes of conventional
       memory
Configuring the Inboard 386 for extended memory starting at 1.5M
       bytes
Using the Inboard Installation kit for non-IBM computers to
connect the Inboard to the computer (PCIB 3002*).

The system board has sockets for 2M bytes of memory, but you can't use
Inboard 386 memory if the system board contains more than 1M byte of
  memory.

     * This Installation Kit is referred to as Packet #HL in FaxBACK
            document 9012.

AST PREMIUM 286

Several customer reports indicate that the Inboard 386 is compatible with
early versions of the AST Premium 286. This computer uses the Inboard 386
installation kit for non-IBM computers (PCIB 3002*). Customers were unable
to provide a way to identify which AST computer would qualify as an "early
  version" or a "later version".

ILIM386.SYS is incompatible with ROM BIOS versions 1.1 or more recent of
the "early versions" of these AST computers. Because ILIM386 can't
backfill memory to provide 640K bytes in these systems, you'll need
another memory board if you want more than 512K bytes of conventional
  memory.

    * This Installation Kit is referred to as Packet #HL in FaxBACK
       document 9012.

AT&T 6300 PLUS

These computers are incompatible with Inboard 386. Their processor boards
are inverted, and the Inboard 386 cable can't reach the processor socket.

AT&T 6310

These computers are incompatible with Inboard 386. Their processor boards
are inverted, so the Inboard 386 cable can't reach the processor socket.

ATRONICS AT100 SYSTEM BOARD

Customers have reported getting the Inboard 386 to work in this system
using Atronics ROM BIOS/286 version 3.11 by Eden Software 1985.

Unfortunately SOFTSET can't update the CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files in
these computers. It will be necessary to manually install Inboard's
software as described in the Inboard 386 manual.

BENTLEY AT

This computer is incompatible with the Inboard 386. The Bentley AT uses
an Everex system board which is incompatible with the Inboard 386.
Several other computer brands use the Everex system board so are also
  incompatible.

CLUB AT

This computer is incompatible with the Inboard 386. The Club AT uses an
Everex system board which is incompatible with the Inboard 386. Several
other computer brands use the Everex system board and so are also
  incompatible.

COMMODORE PC-40-II

A customer reported the Commodore and the Inboard 386 were compatible
  after doing the following:

  1. Using the installation kit for AT-compatible computers
  2. Following COMPAQ installation instructions
  3. Routing the Inboard 386 cable under the board, not over it

The Inboard software then installed easily.

COMPAQ DESKPRO 286 (6 TO 8 MHZ)

  IMPORTANT NOTE:

This section applies only to the 6 to 8 MHz Compaq
Deskpro 286s, which can be compatible with Inboard 386. This
information does not apply to the 12 MHz Compaq Deskpro 286,
which is incompatible with Inboard 386.

The older Compaq Deskpro 286s with system memory on an expansion card are
compatible with Inboard 386. Use the installation kit for AT-compatible
computers (PCIB 3002*). This kit is for computers with LCC/PLCC type
  80286 sockets.

The newer Compaq Deskpro 286s with system memory on the system board are
compatible with only the non-OS/2 version of Inboard 386. To run in these
computers, OS/2 versions of Inboard 386 must be modified by swapping 2
PALs on the InBoard 386/AT. The modified board will work great with
Compaq OS/2 1.0. If the last character of your Inboard 386's part number
is A, you have an OS/2 version of Inboard 386, and the InBoard 386 will
need to be sent in for a Compaqized version. The "Compaqized" version has
different PALs in sockets U62 and U91. A Compaqized version will also work
  fine in an IBM AT.

Configuring conventional memory in these computers depends on the versions
of Compaq memory expansion card you have. One version has two SIPs
(Standing In-line Packages) soldered vertically in Bank 1 on the board.
These SIPs don't look like usual memory chips or sockets. This version
of the memory expansion card can't be disabled down to 256K bytes, so
Inboard 386 can't provide conventional memory in these computers without
  the ILIM386.SYS memory manager.

The other version of the memory card has usual 64K-bit memory chips in
Bank 1 and other banks. This version of the card can be disabled down to
256K bytes by changing the jumpers on the card to J2-J3 and J4-J5. (A
white sticker inside the board's end bracket lists a jumper setting
chart.) Inboard 386 can then be used to provide conventional memory.

    * This Installation Kit is referred to as Packet #HL in FaxBACK
       document 9012.

COMPAQ DESKPRO 286 (12 MHZ)

Intel has verified that this computer is incompatible with the Inboard
  386.

COMPAQ 286E

Intel has verified that this computer is incompatible with the Inboard
  386. This 12 MHz system will not boot with Inboard 386/AT installed.

COMPAQ PORTABLE III

This computer is incompatible with Inboard 386. The Portable III requires
an expansion chassis for AT-type slots, and the Inboard 386 cable cannot
reach from the chassis to the 80286 socket.

COMPAQ PORTABLE 286

Intel has verified that this computer is compatible with the Inboard 386.

COMPAQ PORTABLE II

The Inboard 386s without the OS/2 upgrade are compatible with Compaq
Portable IIs. The newer Inboard 386 (with the OS/2 upgrade) are
incompatible with the Portable II with its newer style system board -- the
  computer does not boot.

When Compaq redesigned the system board using new chips (gate arrays),
they removed some standard circuitry that Inboard 386 needs. If you have
a Compaq Portable II with the newer system board, do NOT upgrade to the
  OS/2 version of Inboard 386.

You can determine which system board your computer has from the Assembly
Number printed on a white strip of paper at the back edge of the system
  board (near the 80287):
Early system board: ASSY NO. 318.00X
Recent system board: ASSY NO. 324.00X or 328.00X

COMPUTERLAND 286

Customers report this computer is incompatible.

The CPU for the Computerland 286 is on an add-in card, not on the system
board. This could cause the reported incompatibility since the Inboard 386
is looking for a certain degree of component level compatibility with IBM
  architectures.

CSS LABS SYSTEM BOARD

Customers report that this computer is compatible. Use the IBM PC AT
installation kit (The product code for this installation kit is PCIB 3001,
but it is referred to as Packet #HM in FaxBACK document 9012).
