                                     TVENVelope

TVENVelope is a program to enable you to print #10 (business)
envelopes on an HP Deskjet printer. All three models of the HP
Deskjet series: HP Deskjet, HP Deskjet Plus, and HP Deskjet 500
          are supported.

          I. Installation

          A. Hard Disk Systems

Choose a directory which is in your PATH statement. It
is easier to use this program if this directory is
writeable (not read-only). Change directory (CD) to this
directory. Use the PKUNZIP unarchiving program to extract
the files from the floppy into it by typing PKUNZIP A:TVENV10A,
or the drive letter that the floppy is on.

          B. Floppy Disk Systems

Format an empty floppy disk. Put this in drive B:. Put the
program disk into drive A:. Type B:. Now use the PKUNZIP
unarchiving program to extract the files from the floppy by
typing PKUNZIP A:TVENV01. The program files will be extracted
from the archive onto your floppy disk. Type B:.

          C. Program Files

The following files will be extracted from the archive:

              TVENV.EXE - program
              TVENVHLP.HLP - help file
              README - this file
              ORDER.DOC - order form
              PROBLEM.DOC - problem reporting form
HISTORY.DOC - list of changes to TVENVelope

You can print README, ORDER.DOC, or PROBLEM.DOC by typing COPY
          <file> PRN.

          II. System Requirements

The TVENVelope program requires an IBM PC, PC XT, PC AT, PS/2 or
a fully compatible system. TVENVelope has been tested with DOS
2.1 and DOS 5. The amount of minimum RAM or main memory
has not been determined, but 256K may be enough. The HP Deskjet
printer must be connected to either LPT1, LPT2, or LPT3. If the
printer is connected to a serial port, a DOS MODE statement (MODE
          LPTn=COMm) must be issued.

III. Using the Program - Tutorial

                                        - 1 -

Execute the program by typing TVENV.

The first time you run the program, choose the Options|Choose
Printer Port option by typing Alt-O P (hold down the Alt key
while tapping the O key, release the Alt key and tap the P key),
or hit the F5 key, or select Options with the mouse and then
Choose Printer Port. Select the port your printer is connected to
by using the arrow keys to select the port or clicking on the
port with the mouse. Hit the ENTER key or click on the OK box to
          leave the dialog.

In a similar way, choose the Options|Choose Printer Font option.
First select the printer model, then select the font desired by
using the tab key to highlight font group and then using the
arrow keys to select the font or clicking on the font with the
          mouse.

Certain fonts are supplied internally with your printer. These
are called internal fonts. Other fonts are only supported if you
have an optional font cartridge installed. The following is a
table showing the fonts supported by this program:

              Printer Model Fonts Supported
              ------------- ---------------
              HP Deskjet Courier (internal)
                               Letter Gothic (optional font cartridge)
              HP Deskjet Plus Courier (internal)
                               Letter Gothic (optional font cartridge)
              HP Deskjet 500 Courier (internal)
                               Letter Gothic (internal)
                               CG Times (internal)

All fonts print in letter quality mode. Exit the Choose Printer
Fonts dialog box by hitting the ENTER key or clicking on the OK
          button with the mouse.

The above steps need only be done the first time you execute the
TVENVelope program. Specify a From Address by typing it in to the
From Address area. Hit the TAB key or click on the To Address
area with the mouse and type in the To Address. A maximum of
252 characters are allowed in each of these areas. Each new line
uses an additional 2 characters for the carriage return and
line feed. The program does not check to see that you have put
in too much data to fit on the envelope either horizontally
or vertically. It is recommended that you not exceed 40
characters per line and 6 lines in each area.

Instead of typing in the From and To Addresses, you may want to
use the Editor to open an existing file and copy the addresses
          from it.

Load the envelope into the printer by following the instructions

                                        - 2 -

in your printer manual. For an HP Deskjet 500, remove the output
tray cover. Orient the envelope so that the flap is upwards and
pointing towards you. Curve the envelope so that the center is
higher than the edges and slide the envelope into the output tray
so that the edges of the envelope are under the tray wings all
the way foward under the envelope guides and then under the feed
rollers until it stops. It is not necessary to "load" the
          envelope  by  hitting the up and down arrow keys  simultaneously;
the program will "load" the envelope.

Print the envelope by hitting Alt-P P or choosing the Print menu
bar option followed by the Print Envelope option.

You may print as many envelopes as you wish by altering the
From/To addresses and choosing the Print|Print Envelope option.

When you exit the program, it attempts to save a file TVENV.DSK
in the same directory the program is located in. If it is
successful, when you enter the program the next time, the From/To
Address information, the Printer Port, and the Printer Font are
restored. If the directory the program is located in is read-
only, you may wish to manually save this information in a
writeable directory be using the Window|Save Desktop option.
Then, when you reenter the program, restore your information by
          choosing the Window|Retrieve Desktop option.
