      Installing into the L40SX
The Memory Module connectors are located under the L40SX Keyboard,
therefore some disassembly is required when adding more memory:

Before you install more memory into an IBM PS/2 Model L40SX you will
need the following tools and materials:
         Your laptop computer manual
The latest reference diskette for you laptop computer
A small Phillips screwdriver with a non-magnetic tip
         A small flat-blade screwdriver win non-magnetic tip

      Installation instructions:
      1. Insert your reference diskette into drive a: and boot your
computer. Select the "test computer" entry on the main menu. This
will verify that your computer is running correctly.
      2. Turn off the computer and all attached devices and disconnect
them from the computer. Remove the rechargeable battery from the
          back of the computer.
      3. Close the display if it is open. Thne on a flat work surface,
turn the computer over and lay it on its top.
      4. Locate and remove the three screw covers on the bottom of the
computer. These are along the front edge of the computer near the
buttons used to open the diskplay. Use the flat-blade screwdriver
to lift off the screw covers. Save the screw covers to reinsert
          later.
      5. Using the small Phillips screwdriver, remove the three screws
that were under the screw covers that were removed in the
          previous step.
      6. Carefully grasp both the top and bottom of both sides of the
computer and turn it back over. Place the computer back on the
          work surface right side up.
      7. Open the display (as you would for normal operation). Remove the
          keyboard by:
Lifting the front edge of the keyboard until it clears the
          case.
Sliding the keyboard forward until the back edge clears the
retaining lip on the rear of the case.
      8. Carefully lift the keyboard out and flip it over so the keys are
face down on the work surface.
      9. You can now see the two memory expansion slots in your computer.
Follow the guidelines listed below to determine which slot(s) to
          use:

8MB Memory Modules: Place the first 8MB memory module in slot 2.
This is true when installing a single 8MB memory module or any
combination of an 8MB memory module and other sizes.

4MB Memory Modules: Place a single 4MB memory module in
slot 2. If you intend to use both an 8MB module and a 4MB
module, place the 8MB module in slot 2. NOTE: You cannot
               install two 4MB memory modules.

2MB Memory Modules: Place a single 2MB memory module in slot 1.
      10. Your memory module has a notch on one end near the gold-colored
connectors. Hold the module so the notch is on your left. Insert
the memory module into the socket. Push back on the module,
applying equal pressure to both ends, to lock the module into
place. Make sure the locking tabs on the socket are fully
engaged. (You should hear a click when it locks into place.)
      11. Reassemble the computer. Make sure the back edge of the keyboard
is positioned under the retaining lip. Carefully grasp both the
top and bottom of both sides of the computer and turn it over.
Replace the three screws and screw covers. Turn the computer back
over. Plug in the power cord or battery pack.

      12. Insert your reference diskette into drive A: and turn on your
computer. Run Automatic Configure to recognize the new memory.
