ABOVE BOARD MC32 INSTALLATION STEPS (CURRENT ADP)

     Software part# 302477-001A, Diskette Part # 302478-001A, Label date
     12/89 or more recent.

     1. If adding SIMMs onto the Above Board MC32, make sure the SIMMs are
either 256k or 1MB SIMMs (you can't mix SIMM sizes on the Above
Board MC32). The SIMMs need to be rated at 100ns or faster (such as
85- or 80-nanoseconds). Since the Above Board MC32 will be doing a
full 32bit access to the SIMMs, SIMMs need to be added 4 at a time,
(the first four SIMM sockets are the top four sockets on the Above
         Board MC32).

     2. Unplug the computer from the outlet, disconnect the cables, and
remove the cover. If you are unsure how to remove the cover to your
computer, refer to your IBM Quick Reference Guide for your specific
         system.

     3. Locate an empty 32bit expansion slot in your computer (the 32bit
slots will cover all of the gold connectors on the Above Board
MC32, 16bit slots are shorter and will leave gold connectors
         exposed).

     4. Loosen, but don't remove, the screw fastening the silver end
bracket of the unused 32bit expansion slot. Remove the silver end
bracket, but keep it in case you ever remove your Above Board MC32.

     5. Holding the Above Board MC32 by the Plastic Retainers (on the top
edge of the board), slide it into the open expansion slot. The
board should slide easily most of the way into the slot, when some
resistance is felt, check the alignment of the gold connectors on
the board and the slot. Make sure the notched metal bracket on the
back edge of the board straddles the slot retaining screw and won't
be bent when the board is fully inserted. Then push down firmly to
seat the board into the expansion slot connector.

     6. To hold the board securely in place, tighten the slot retaining
screw you loosened in step 4. Tightening by hand is sufficient.

     7. Replace the cover of your computer, reconnect the cables, and plug
the cord back into the outlet. If you don't know how to replace the
cover to your computer, refer to the IBM Quick Reference for your
         specific system.

     8. Boot to a backup copy of the Reference diskette for that specific
         system.

     9. Say No to Automatically configure.

     10. Copy the Intel Option diskette.

     11. Choose Set Config, then Change Config.

     12. Verify the Memory type (can't be changed) System type and Chip
         speed

     13. F10 to save

     14. Reboot from the hard disk and watch memory count at POST!

If any SIMMS are defective or improperly seated into the SIMM sockets,
the memory will not show up in the reference diskette and won't be
counted when the computer is turned on; there won't be any error
     messages.
