ARCNET & TESTAB, INSTALL

With an Arcnet board installed, TESTAB will show a pattern of bad chips,
or perhaps will show the entire Above Board as containing bad chips.
Also, the discontinued INSTALL and SETUPAT programs will report bad memory
and may not install the expanded memory software. This is not a conflict
with the Above Board and the Arcnet board, it is a conflict between the
way these software packages ascertain information about the computer and
the way the Arcnet card responds.

Solution: Remove the Arcnet board when running TESTAB, INSTALL or
SETUPAT, then put the Arcnet board back into the computer
when finished running these software packages (NOTE: Always
make sure the computer is turned off when removing or
            installing computer components).

VIANETIX & INSTALL

Customers report that the Vianetix Network adapter is Compatible with
Above Boards and the Matched Memory Classic.

Tech note: The INSTALL program was unable to install the Above Board
software with the Vianetix adapter installed. It was necessary to
manually install the Above Board software using DEVICE = EMM.SYS M1 I5. We
have had no reports whether or not SOFTSET has had any problems with this
  adapter (it might work fine).

SIGMA COLOR 400 & INSTALL, SETBOARD, TESTAB

INSTALL, SETBOARD, and TESTAB cause a blank screen soon after loading if a
Sigma 400 is present in the system. EMM works fine with the Sigma 400.

  SOLUTIONS:
SETBOARD; there isn't one. The display will go away although the program
is still active. It is not practical to walk through SETBOARD without
seeing where the display is, since SETBOARD is smart enough to choose it's
current selections from the way the board is currently configured.

INSTALL; it would be necessary to manually install the Intel software
without the use of the INSTALL program, or use a different video adapter.

TESTAB; Sigma 400 will cause a blank screen after asking operator to
choose either 1 - for a PC system, or 2 - for an AT system. It then
(invisibly) diplays the switch settings for the AB with the LOWEST I/O
port address, and asks a question.

For a PC system: "Do you want to continue? (Y or N)"
For an AT system: "Is there a piggy attached? (Y or N)"

If the operator chooses a response to the above question, the program will
continue and the screens will become visible again. The remainder of the
  test program should run correctly.

If the program fails to continue, then it is possible that the system is
not totally IBM compatible, and the invisible screen contained the error
message, "Your system is not totally IBM compatible."

DISK CACHING - GENERAL NOTES

If you have an expanded memory disk cache installed and if you run our old
INSTALL program (it was replaced by SOFTSET which doesn't have this
problem), you will corrupt your harddisk File Allocation Table. Our
Install program checked to see what expanded memory was available, and in
so doing it was possible that a disk cache using expanded memory could
become corrupted, and corrupt the File Allocation Table (FAT) on a hard
  disk.

If you have installed disk caching software (such as Microsoft Smartdrive
or IBM disk cache) on your computer's hard disk, disable the disk cache
  software before running INSTALL.

DOS 3.2, 3.3 AND INSTALL

All Above Boards are compatible with DOS 3.2 and 3.3. Some earlier
versions of our INSTALL and SETUP programs gave an error message if used
  with DOS 3.2 or 3.3.

  The solutions are:
You can either install the Above Board software manually, download the
latest Above Board software from the Intel BBS, or boot the computer using
a DOS 3.0 or 3.1 system disk before running INSTALL or SETUP, (once the
Above Board software is installed it would be okay to boot with DOS 3.2 or
  3.3).

INSTALL AND SINGLE-DRIVE COMPUTERS

INSTALL won't work in computers with only one disk drive (such as IBM
Model 25). The Intel software would need to be manually installed.

INSTALL AND AB PLUS

The Install program on the AB PLUS diskette we initially shipped is the
same Install we shipped with AB 286. It will not add any parameters that
are unique to the AB PLUS EMM 4.0. You will need to add those manually or
use newer Above Board software (available on the Intel BBS).

INSTALL, AB PLUS, & IBM VGA

The IBM VGA board uses the address space from C0000-CBFFF. Even though the
board uses the entire C0000-CBFFF range, the memory locations from C8000-
CBFFF appear to be unused by the Above Board programs INSTALL, SOFTSET,
and EMM. It is therefore necessary to manually edit the EMM.SYS device
driver line to relocate the expanded memory page frame to CC00 or D000.

NOTE: For the Above Board Plus, you are only required to include the
page frame on the EMM.SYS device driver line in certain
cases. This is one of those cases.

INSTALL MSG 603

The Above Board 286 INSTALL version 1.1 program may cause error msg. 603
when the program attempts to access the system disk. It would be necessary
to manually install the Intel software.

The currently shipping software eliminates this problem. The software is
  available on the Intel BBS.

ZENITH Z449 & INSTALL AND TESTAB

Field reports INSTALL and TESTAB won't work with this graphics board. Do
a manual install of EMM. We haven't had any reported problems with this
board and Softset. If you install the Above Board software manually, the
  Above Board reportedly works fine.
